Q&A With WillowTree Employees

WillowTree employees answer questions about what life is like behind the scenes at their company, including queries about culture, leadership, professional development, and compensation.

How employees describe working at WillowTree

Willowtree is an ok place to work - the people are its greatest asset but the compensation is low and there is very little support from management to foster any growth within the company.

Deteriorating, low-growth opportunities...but interesting work.

The people are wonderful and the reason I stay, but not loving where leadership is heading/the decisions they make.

Willowtree was a dream company for which to work. It was indeed different, apart from the rough. I'm afraid their story is like many others; all good things must come to an end. In terms of employee experience, the company continues to trend in the wrong direction. Good people are leaving.

This used to be an amazing place to work but unfortunately things have gotten a lot worse. A lot of people who really contributed to the culture here have left. We haven't had COLA for 2 years and it's significantly harder to get any sort of merit increase / promotion. A lot of people want to leave.

  • Layoffs are extremely rare at WillowTree. In fact, I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone getting laid off due to lack of projects or work since I've been here for almost 4 years. The demand for what we do it always high. If anything, I wish I had more time between projects. But as soon as I roll off one project, there is already 2 more in the pipeline I could be part of.

  • 1. The people. I don't know how they've managed to hire such amazing people from all over the world. It feels good that others have your back and truly care about building a solid product. 2. The variety of work/projects. I used to work at a product company, and I felt I wasn't learning as much. Since coming here, I've worked on 3 different client projects that were all different. I got the opportunity to make technical decisions that I would have never been able to before. They have high standards when hiring, but I understand why once put on a project. 3. Continuous learning. Since I started working here, I have gone to two conferences, participate in innovation projects, attend various office hours to learn other platforms, and learn a ton from talking to my teammates. I have an understanding of the full product lifecycle and what goes on in other departments or pieces of the business.

  • The morale is positive! A lot of it has to do with transparency from leadership and exciting growth — in terms of people, office space, and financially. No company is perfect, but WillowTree keeps me optimistic. Overall, the culture + people are super friendly and fun. Even when work gets hard, being around awesome people reminds me why I love here so much. Further, if there are ever individual concerns, everyone is encouraged to raise those early. People will listen and do everything they can to ensure the company continues to evolve and remain a great place to work.
