Actually is quite easy, if you already have one. The work-life balance is good.
What's the best part of your job at YouTube?
The salary. They pay more than most companies in the area to do a lot less.
How much diversity is there among employees at YouTube?
Probably too much. They care more about diversity than people knowing how to do their job. If you are of any "largely known" minority, you are at advantage. But you need to be of a real known minority. If your minority is less than 0.1 percent, then never say anything, as they can attack you freely (but only in words and reviews, not physically).
What's the IT team like at YouTube?
They hate C++, they love Python, but they have to live with C++ as it is the rule. Yet, the Python experts have more say on C++ code than the C++ experts, after all they are at YouTube longer than their C++ friends.
How long do the interviews usually take at YouTube?
The on-site is 5 interviews taking 45 minutes.
How would you compare interviewing at YouTube to other places you've interviewed?
They have great interviewers. And they have interviewers that don't know what they are doing. Also, their HR either lies or don't know how things really work. My experience at Microsoft was much better, both on the interview and at work.
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from YouTube?
Software engineers. Not sure how long they get back to me, as it was a 3 step process, and actually I think the third step only happened because one person on the second step didn't like me. The entire hiring process took 5 months, but I needed a visa.
How flexible is your work schedule at YouTube?
Very flexible.
Does YouTube drug test or do a background check?
They do background check before hiring. Never heard about drug tests.
What benefits does YouTube provide?
Health insurance.
What do people at YouTube think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
Not sure. I think everybody is more focused on more recent issues than on the overall.
What's the work from home policy like at YouTube?
Not sure to be honest. I know we can work from home and many people do that once a week, but I don't know if there are any rules to be followed. I personally don't work from home, so I can't tell.
