I feel compensation should be strictly based on performance rather than other factors like budget restrictions. This might sound unrealistic but to do so otherwise leaves allot of "gray" area to consider.
Workload keeps getting bigger and more diversified since we have been experiencing team members leave for other positions or companies. While my management team definitely verbally express their appreciation for the extra effort being put in, the compensation is not really reflected.
