A great experience so far! A lot of changes and progress in the works, so naturally there are some growing pains, but we work through them and are better for it!
Good growing business that tries to put employees forst
It's fast moving. Its a 20 year old software company, so there is some legacy stuff, but they're also building lots of modern software and add new features regularly. They're buying companies, they're growing fast. It's a cool place to work

Does DaySmart Software have any remote positions?
Top Employee Response
Company is fully remote
Not solely remote, but in winter many people are afforded the opportunity to use their judgement to work remotely. Also there is a little bit of flex of working remotely if you cover shifts or work Saturdays.
No remote positions as far as I know - we have a big space designed for collaboration. Most people are here everyday, although working from home on occasion is definitely something you can work out with your boss.
How's the work life balance at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
There is definitely work to do, and some people seem like they're always here, but even in the busiest departments (Support, Development, Sales), they are hiring people and nobody seems like they are getting crushed.
Great! We work hard, but that's pretty much my style anyway. There's a real flexibility in how/when you work and vacations are mandatory (they want you to relax and recharge).
Great work/life balance. People work hard, but nobody is working day & night or anything. Most people walk in at 9 and out at 5
What benefits does DaySmart Software provide?
Solid benefit package, well above industry standard vacation days even for entry level employees.
Excellent health coverage (the company covers lots of that cost, too), vision, dental and life insurance... free lunch every Friday, free snacks, you get your birthday off, which is cool.
Pretty generous medical (I think they pay 75% of the premium), dental, vision, life insurance. They match 401K contributions up to 5%, two weeks vacation, something like 10 holidays, you get your birthday off...

What is the best part about your compensation package at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
Very good salary and respectable benefits make from an overall vey satisfactory comp plan.
Pay is more than fair and new management has recently made several improvements to benefits and culture.
More than fair market value for this area with lost of oppty for upward mobility
What do you like best about the leadership team at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
The new team here is focused on progress, driven to perform and is open to input from people who have been here for years.
Very flexible thinkers. Emphasis is on collaboration and accountable decision-making - not a lot of dithering here. Make progress, adjust.
VERY flexible in approaching problems, willing to listen to all involved and, most important, they are decisive. You know where they stand
What is most positive about the culture and environment at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
Great people, period. Many employees looking forward to moving to Ann Arbor in the coming weeks to what is supposed to be a great space!
Very collaborative culture, very open to ideas from anywhere. Yes, there is lots of work to be done but people are pulling together
Dog friendly, open environment with lots of interaction and things like ping pong and outdoor basketball hoops
What are some of the best things about your team at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
The whole company has been together so long, there is a real family atmosphere (I know everyone says that, but its real here)
Many have been here a long time, so people are generally deeply invested in the mission, products and each other.
We're small, but agile. For a handful of people, we get a LOT done. Cool people, too - everyone wants to do the right thing for customers
How's the vacation policy at DaySmart Software?
Unlimited PTO
Pretty generous 2-3 weeks as a standard when you start, plus 8- 10 company holidays plus you get your birthday off, which is pretty cool.
I think everyone gets two weeks right away (no waiting, vesting period)
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at DaySmart Software?
Top Employee Response
Not sure, it's pretty cool here. Its a great team and that makes all the difference. Maybe some job-swapping program might allow people to 'walk in others shoes'. Wouldn't work for every department, but maybe if you wanted to move into a new group that might be a way to test things out.
It seems pretty great actually. The new office space has completely changed the group dynamics, free lunch Friday has been kicked up a notch because better vendors are nearby, the building has ice cream and food trucks come by regularly, we're restarting our golf team, fantasy football league, the shuffle board and chess competitions... not sure what more I would want from my workplace.
The culture "in office" is great, but people really don't get together outside the office much. Maybe start a softball team or something that gets people together outside of work hours.
What interview questions does DaySmart Software ask?
Top Employee Response
A lot of specific questions about your past experience - really digging into projects and content deliverables in a way I didn't see in interviews at other places. "What kinds of work environments do you prefer?" was one that I remember - do you like to work alone, in a group, in the middle of a busy call center...
What campaigns have you built/been a part of that generated extraordinary results (good or bad)
What do you feel was your biggest work accomplishment last year? What do you like to do outside of work - what makes you "you"? What do you need from a manager?
How does DaySmart Software make decisions around promotions?
Performance is the key to getting promoted at DaySmart. There was a time when longevity counted for as much as performance, but it definitely feels as though the balance has shifted - doesn't how matter long you've been here, but how well you've been doing the job.
Managers make promotion decisions based on performance, it seems. In the last 90 days, they've promoted about 12 people.
What's the office vibe like at DaySmart Software?
Getting a little crowded from when we first moved in - more people, more activity, more projects in flight at once. The vibe is definitely "get it done".
Its a big space, so in the Sales pit, it's loud and busy. In the Dev area, its more subdued with people in front of screens with headphones. There's a good size kitchen/eating area where people gather in the AM and at lunch, pretty social there. Some people hang around after work to play music, chess or this shuffleboard game.
What do people at DaySmart Software think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The CEO is very involved and approachable. From Day 1, he's been actively walking the floor, talking to people, asking for opinions and input. He also takes a hands-on approach to Sales, gets involved in calls, deal negotiation and lost customer reporting.
Jeff is really involved, very friendly, very approachable and very involved. He generally solicits input and he genuinely follows up. He is focused on sales (naturally), but he has also gone out of his way to upgrade our facility, make sure people are happy and his twice-a-month all company meetings feature different departments each time and keep everyone on the same page.
What part of DaySmart Software's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Top Employee Response
I don't get access to all of the detailed sales data so I don't know what's slowing down, but we just got named to our seventh consecutive INC 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America list, so I guess we're doing better than most.
The traditional business (salon solutions on Windows) continues to power the growth here. Cloud subscriptions (app store downloads) seem to be under-performing, maybe because they've never received a lot of focus here.
What's the company culture like at DaySmart Software?
Very collegial. We hang out a lot during the day (lunchroom, shuffleboard table) and its a very team-oriented environment. Lots of cross-team collaboration.
Casual and collaborative, this team has worked together for a long time and pulls together when there is work to be done.
What are the most important soft skills to be successful at DaySmart Software?
Collaboration - the ability to set your ego and priorities aside to help another team member solve a problem.
What makes you the most proud about working at DaySmart Software?
Meeting happy customers! They tell us at trade shows or industry events how we have helped them grow their business, attract more business, reduce their overhead and achieve greater work/life balance.
How are the healthcare options at DaySmart Software?
Excellent! The 2019 increase was absorbed by the company so we saw no increase in our costs, despite DaySmart already making some pretty significant contributions to keep our 2018 costs down.
What kind of activities do employees at DaySmart Software participate in outside of work?
Video games is probably the number 1 answer, but we have golfers, runners, bikers, snowboarders and more.
Does DaySmart Software drug test or do a background check?
Yes on background checks for all employees. No drug tests to my knowledge
How do I do well in an interview at DaySmart Software?
Be specific about the value you drive. Don't talk generically - be prepared to show how you are faster/better or specific numbers you have driven.
How are the benefits at DaySmart Software for employees in Marketing?
Excellent health insurance (vision, medical, dental), good vacation schedule, free lunches on Fridays... Great Christmas party and now a summer outing for the whole company
What's the internship program like at DaySmart Software?
Pretty robust program, this summer saw a few Dev and UX interns as well as 2 Sales/Marketing interns.
What kind of people succeed at DaySmart Software?
Energetic self-starters that are looking to take on a challenge and not stand around waiting to be told how to handle it. Folks who jump in, dig deep and drive to finish. We love those kinds of people here.
