To create a shopping experience that pleases our customers; a workplace that creates opportunities and a great working environment for our associates; and a business that achieves financial success.
Albertsons is a unified team of energized associates obsessed with creating the world's number one food and drug retailer in the areas of market value, scale, profitability, customer service and associate satisfaction.
Albertsons Companies is committed to integrating sustainability into our everyday business decisions to enable our employees, customers and stakeholders to create better lives, vibrant neighborhoods, and a healthier planet.
We are constantly evolving our sustainability goals for our company and will share these important changes with our stakeholders. This process requires the gathering of baseline data, initiatives and best practices across our company. This will provide a consistent framework for each of our 14 operating divisions to report on and showcase the great work they are each doing. We are proud of the efforts already underway in many of our divisions. Some of the initiatives focus on giving back to our communities, while others concentrate on reducing the amount of natural resources we use.
Our support of local communities is apparent in the aisles of your neighborhood store. For example, shelf tags throughout the store identify locally grown and manufactured products from your community. Our seafood sourcing teams are working closely with our expert partners at FishWise to ensure we take the appropriate steps to sustainably source seafood products for all of our stores.
Over the years we have helped to feed millions of families via our robust food donation program and giving platforms. Our campaign was recently recognized by Feeding America as a Visionary Partner for the contributions that allow them to feed more people today while finding long-term solutions to address hunger nationally. Thanks to the generous contributions from our customers and employees, we also made substantial contributions to important causes such as prostate and breast cancer research, people with disabilities, and veterans.
As we work to make our operations more efficient, we understand the need to work toward reducing the overall environmental footprint of our business. It is critical that we achieve business growth while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and use of other important resources.
We encourage you to continue coming back to this website to learn more about our progress and commitments to make a positive difference in the neighborhoods we serve and the planet we share.
Throughout the nation, in the neighborhoods served by our stores, the passion of our employees and the generosity of our customers serve as the backbone of Albertsons Companies’ history of giving back to the communities and is the foundation of how Joe Albertson did business. Joe not only helped his communities by donating back to his customers, but he also gave back to schools; food banks and other organizations that were in need.
As a grocer, no greater cause hits closer to home for us than hunger relief. Each year we donate more than $265 million in food to food banks, pantries and other agencies that are on the frontlines in the fight against hunger in America. Each of our 2,300+ stores continuously support hunger relief efforts through in-store food drives or through fundraising campaigns in conjunction with Albertsons Companies Foundation, our nonprofit.
By far the most prominent and impactful of those campaigns is Hunger Is, an Albertsons Companies Foundation charitable program which raises awareness and funds to end childhood hunger in America. Since the program’s 2014 inception, Hunger Is has raised more than $23 million to provide healthful breakfasts, for children who would otherwise go without. In 2017, 50 million breakfasts were provided to kids in need.
Another core area of giving and outreach for Albertsons Companies and Albertsons Companies Foundation is in Disaster Relief. When our neighborhoods are struck by disaster, our employees and stores respond by reaching out to their neighborhood’s citizens and addressing their needs. In 2017 alone, when hurricanes and wildfires destroyed parts of our nation, our stores rallied to raise more than $17 million as well as food and supplies to assist our first responders and the people in our neighborhoods who were left devastated.
Albertsons Companies Foundation supports causes that impact our customers’ lives. Our stores provide the opportunity to mobilize funding and create awareness in our neighborhoods through our employees’ passion, partnerships with our vendors and the generous contributions by our customers.
Overall as a company, we work in collaboration with local organizations and seek to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. We take pride in ensuring that most of the funds we raise stays in local communities and reflects what is important to our employees and customers.
