Contradictory culture and can be judgemental, broken promises, you learn who's under who's wing. Alot gets thrown under the rug. Yearly raises if you're lucky the company gives any. Don't expect not to be judged over everything. You go in and get out.

Understanding the employees better and not being one-sided

Was more casual than be excessively bombarded with questions compared to other companies but then again it depends on the management
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
You get more verbal 'Thank you's' and pats on the back when you work hard than seeing a change on your salary.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
Leadership needs to improve. Some people need to be accountable for their own actions, learn to talk to their employees better or not be degrading to some people
