Review from Product Dept

The people I deal with keep their word

Customer service. Both your customer service representative and her supervisor could not give me an answer to my inquiries.

Look at services from customer standpoint

Follow-up on customer requests. Have spoken with Cust Svce on 4 occasions over the past 4 months. Each time I was promised the information I requested within 4 weeks. Never happened. The last time I called the rep also promised a call back to provide progress. Still waiting.

  • Rather innovative at the expense of their employees.

  • The company as a whole is on the cutting edge of big data analytics. They also support involvement and use of open source software. However, how innovative your work is depends on your team and your manager. There is no single Capital One culture. More or less Directors and Sr Managers define the culture for the team under them. If you land with a team that is risk averse, you might have lot of constraints on you. Also, it depends on your Product Owner. Some teams have very hands off Pod. Some teams have micromanaging Pod. Some POs are very forward looking. Some aren't. You do not have any control over who your manager is, too. There is frequent reorgs happening at the middle management level. This means that one year you may have lit of freedom to innovate, and the next year, you may be stuck in politics.

  • For the Data Analyst roles, it's a 4-step process. First you get a screening call with a recruiter, fairly simple and straightforward. Then you get a couple of basic online coding tasks; these are also simple and are not very challenging. Then you get a take-home challenge, this is where you can show off your data skills to the recruiters. You have to solve a business problem, and they allow you to use any type of open-source technology. Finally, if they liked your job, you go to a day-long onsite interview process where you'll meet up to 5 interviewers. These are case, behavioral, and technical interviews. For the case ones, you can prepare fairly good with online materials. For the behavioral, just make sure to prepare some typical questions so that they don´t surprise you, but honestly just keep the conversation going. For the technical, be sure to review what you did on you take-home assignment. And that's it!
