How's the work life balance at Bank of America?
I've only been full-time for about a month and a half, but so far I'm finding the work-life balance OK; I'm definitely putting in more hours than I did when I was a contractor (and no OT anymore), but I'd say 50 hours per week is about the max, and as a new employee I've been tending to stay later than others most days. Some employees also work from home and need to be available more frequently, though that depends on job function. So far I haven't seen supervisors demanding a certain number of hours; as long as the work is done, you're not really expected to stay late, though probably anything less than 40 would be frowned on.
Great - very balanced and chill
We get along well. We got rid of the problem causes.
What do people at Bank of America think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
For the most part I think Moynihan is fairly well-regarded as a CEO, though I don't know of anyone who's personally interacted with him. He does seem to be embracing the whole concept of "responsible growth" and there seems to be increasing emphasis on managing and avoiding risk, particularly with regard to internal processes.
Everyone loves him! His strategy has put BOA in a great position and we are now better than ever
We all like him at a distance because we have never met him.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Bank of America?
There tends to be a significant amount of insularity among different groups/departments that can make working together difficult. Certain groups are somewhat notorious for blame and work-shifting, and try to avoid taking responsibility for anything they don't absolutely have to. So overall, there's a lot of CYA activity, which can be frustrating for those who don't like that culture (always having to be careful with emails, avoiding taking responsibility for honest mistakes, etc.) That would be the biggest thing about the culture I'd like to change.
A little more acknowledgement to the lower grades to make them feel that they make a difference.
I would use a sales focused approach. Not treat people like children.
What could management be doing better to retain employees?
Top Employee Response
STOP KEEPING A RACIST MANAGERS, I used to work in southern California market , where are Latin managers (Spanish speaking) who only do favoritism to the Spanish speakers like them, anybody else they hate. Thanks,,,,,,,
Employees could be paid more because the tellers are the people that customers are the first thing they associate with.
I agree. I had two managers speaking about my performance in Spanish, thinking I did not understand. It was also in front of another employee that spoke Spanish. Extremely unprofessional.
What's the office vibe like at Bank of America?
Top Employee Response
This depends. Considering how vast the organization is and the fact that it's core business is finance and not technology there is no set vibe. In places like New York and Charlotte, tech teams have enough of a quorum in the office to be able to bounce ideas off teammates in brainstorming sessions, organize team events etc. and generate more of an engaging, if conventional, office environment. Places that are not core locations for the bank still make an attempt to synthesize this atmosphere by pulling together people who are working remotely from the bulk of their team. The Chicago office in that regard has improved a lot in trying to make people in different teams feel engaged as opposed to 'being alone in a crowd' since on a day to day basis they are normally working with remote resouces rather than collaborating locally. But this differs site to site (for non-primary sites) and in this day and age of BYO.. it's BYOV.
Comfortable but professional
We have fun. It is a relaxed office but we get much work done.
If you could change anything about your job, what would it be?
Some of the restrictions are not needed. With experience employees should have more descrition
I would love to have more say on loan approvals
Ability to provide better customer support!!
What's the company culture like at Bank of America?
Sell sell sell, it’s all about profit
Company culture is about sales only they put a lot of pressure In employees to make sales most of the employees at BOA are not happy with their job but the only reason they working is because they need to paid bills . The stress is crazy you been push to put a business application once a week if not you feel oh will get fire . I will not be surprise to see BOA in the news in 2 years .
Diversity and Inclusion. Political conservatives should leave thier ideals at home.
What's the interview process like at Bank of America?
Top Employee Response
Great! You know what the job you are applying requires & transfers within the company are good.
Very relaxed but professional.
Phone interview screening first Then face to face interview.
What part of Bank of America's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Top Employee Response
Merrill Lynch is growing. Technical support has been cut too drastically w/o considering customer support. Need to control LOBs from setting up own help desks, costly & creates duplication.
I think that sales have gone down because of drive through a but sales of ATM accounts have gone up.
I think things my grow faster because of the sales pressure you have clients in Bank of America with 5 credit cards for no reason Bankers just to the applications even if the client don’t need it just because of sales pressure
How does Bank of America make decisions around promotions?
Base on your connections they don’t value employees
It’s a politics game. Each manager gets a set sum. They determine who gets what. So if your numbers are better than ‘John’ but John is a buddy. John will get more. I made a good salary there, but consistently got less than the men, even when my ratings were consistently higher.
On the engineering side, promotions, as well as performance reports, are based on office politics. For quarterly performance reports, the managers get together and horse-trade a limit number of "Exceeds" ratings among the departments. Those Exceeds are applied to the employees who are most visible or who engage in the right kind of politicking. So for high-performance teams, still only one member of that team may be recognized with an Exceeds, even though the entire team may be exceeding expectations. In these same meetings managers dole out a limited pool of pay increases and bonuses, trading with the other managers. Promotions are handled the same way, and are influenced by one's manager's previous ability to get their employee Exceeds ratings and political recognition. So an engineer at BofA is better served by politicking and self-promoting, than by quietly and consistently performing up to a high standard.

What benefits does Bank of America provide?
Some benefits and/or aspects of benefits are based on pay level. Benefits for full-time employees include (not an exhaustive list): health insurance (premium levels based on pay scale) w/company contributions to HSA accounts if eligible; 401(k) match of 2% annual salary plus matching contributions up to 5% (available after 1 yr. of employment); company-paid life and disability insurance with options for expanded coverage; paid vacation, sick leave, parental leave (I believe hours of sick/vacation time is dependent on pay scale); tuition reimbursement (if connected to employment); employee discounts on merchandise/event tickets, etc. I've only been full-time for a couple months, and I don't really have much to compare it to, as I haven't held jobs at other similar-caliber companies, but to me the benefits seem fairly good. I wasn't particularly impressed with the 401(k) investment options, esp. considering this is Bank of America, but the annual match is pretty good.
I’m palaver there is a lot of benefits but in real life all of that you read in paper is not true

They provide some good benefits in paper when it come to take your benefits for example vacations they give you a hard time . You have sick days but if you get sick they don’t want for you to take a sick day they pretty much tell you that you need to take that day from your vacation so at the end you don’t have good benefits
My manager let me work from home on days after chemo. And I kept my job for years after I was better!

No happy at all I pray God to give me strength to continue I cry every morning before going in because of the stress
Overworked. Stressed. Exhausted. Too many responsibilities.

No. They are very weird about it too. I was work from home for 10 years then they just pulled everyone back
I worked remotely for 10 years, but the last three years they are moving away from remote & forcing everyone back into the office.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved at Bank of America?
Top Employee Response
Having every move watched. You feel like you're under a microscope. If you stay on premises for lunch or break, you're expected to work if it gets busy, even if you still have time left. And having to justify bathroom breaks.
Positive comments from site lead st Rio Rancho we only get negative. No time for team building can't go to bathroom without a coaching
