How much and how often do raises happen at General Dynamics?
No pay increases in 3 years, but received a cash award around $600.
Only once a year and varies from 1-3%. In one case, we received a monetary award with no salary increase.
What would cause you to leave your job at General Dynamics?
The continuation of poor management.
How's the work pace at General Dynamics?
Constant high stress.
What's the best part of your job at General Dynamics?
I like the actual work that I do, just not the political drama.
What are the team outings like at General Dynamics?
We didnt have any of these.
How challenged are you at General Dynamics?
Very, but for political reasons not the actual work.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at General Dynamics?
Not difficult with the typical 9-5 job. However, the work can be mentally draining at times.
How do you feel about going to work at General Dynamics everyday?
Due to the poor morale at my specific site I dread it. I get depressed on Sunday evenings.
How's the feedback proccess at General Dynamics?
Poor. The annual evaluation is a matter of management checking the box. The program they use would be efficient if it was actually used as intended with benchmarks, etc. I received several monetary awards but was never considered for promotions or leadership tasks. However, at my evaluation I was told that my work is great and there were no complaints. For the areas of improvement, my manager just rewrote what I thought. No guidance was given on how I could improve for a promotion or be a part of leadership.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at General Dynamics?
Tell them what they want to hear and match the job description.
How secure do you feel at your job at General Dynamics?
Not very secure. I am constantly reminded either directly or indirectly that I am replaceable.
How's the morale at General Dynamics?
For my site, it was very poor. However, I think this was specific to the immediate on-site manager, the off-site program manager, and the passive-aggressive behavior with the govt client - who were never satisfied. I do not think this situation was reflective of GDIT as a whole. GDIT personnel from other sites shared more positive experiences.
What unique perks and benefits does General Dynamics provide?
They offer pet health insurance that I used. However, I don’t see them outshine any of the other large DoD contracting companies. It appears their salaries may also be lower in many of the scientific and regulatory compliance positions.
What's the office layout like at General Dynamics?
GDIT is a DoD contractor and I worked at a government site. Unless your corporate, which consists mainly of program managers, each site will vary.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining General Dynamics?
That there health insurance benefit (high deductible/HSA plans only) stinks and they refuse to offer anything else.
What kind of people succeed at General Dynamics?
Power driven at any expense
