View ArticleYM has transformed the platform's compensation structure to put control in your hands. The new pay structure provides the opportunity for any technician to make $50-$55 per hour. It's simple - the more you work, the more you make!
Base Pay Every new technician on the YM platform starts off at $40 per hour. You will qualify for a base pay increase depending on your skill level and the amount of Turbo Hours you complete. *If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, your base pay starts off at $42.50/hour.
Turbo Hours (Broken-up in Tiers) Turbo Hours are the number of labor hours completed for any appointment that receives at least a 4-star rating with no workmanship warranty claims.
*If the customer does not rate the service you will still receive your Turbo Hours for that appointment.*

We could go on and on about all of the great things the platform has to offer, and ways other YM technicians have found success. However, we'd rather start by asking: what are you looking to gain from working with YM?
In order to create a solid foundation for your business, you must first figure out what you are looking to gain from it. Whether you are looking for extra income or to work full-time, having specific goals that set realistic timelines for achieving them will help you measure your success.
Providing solid answers to the questions listed below will help you gauge how much time is needed to achieve your goals:
What are your income goals?
How many hours do you want to work?
What are you looking to gain from the platform?

Welcome to YourMechanic JumpStart!
The prospect of running your own business is exciting, though knowing where to start can be difficult. Manytechnicians who join the platform with great mechanical skills do not last because they lack the knowledge and experience required to run a business. At YourMechanic our goal is to help technicians take their skilled trade to the next level. We've designed JumpStart to help you build a solid foundation for the success of your business.
Jumpstart will guide you through your first 45 days as a business owner as you become familiar with the YM platform. Through Jumpstart you will learn key features of the app, ways to generate repeat customers, tips for staying organized, and how to get the most out of every opportunity.
We are glad to have you on the platform. Lets get started!
View ArticleBelow are a few different examples of how mechanics at different levels and different tiers are making the new pay system work for them.
For more information about the structure of the new pay system click here.
This slide shows how a skills upgrade can help mechanics increase their base pay and earn more for the same hours worked. Click here for more information about skills upgrades. here
Some mechanics might see a reduction in their base pay. As you can see in this example, that doesn't necessarily mean a reduction in their overall pay. This mechanic qualifies for weekly bonuses and so ends up making the same amount even with lower base pay. Click here for more information about base pay.
If that same mechanic were to work two additional hours a week, they would bump up to a higher weekly bonus rate and end up earning more than they would have given the same hours worked with the higher base pay.
This example shows the impact of the returning and new customer bonuses. To learn more about customer and weekly bonuses, click .
In this example, we return to the mechanic whose base pay went down $1. If there were to work with new and returning customers at the same relative rate as the previous mechanic, those bonuses along with their weekly bonus put them well above what they would have earned at the higher base pay.
View ArticleOne way the system matches you with the quote request is by verifying you have the basic tools for the job. This is why its important to keep your tools updated. If you get a new tool, lose a tool, or break a tool you can update your inventory through your app in the tab.
This will allow the system to filter out the jobs you cannot perform since you do not have the required tools. Our system will only auto check for the basic tools required for a service this is why we advise checking the repair procedures prior to the appointment for specialty tools.
View ArticleVoice notes help you provide a clear description of what service you were booked for, what services you provided, and any issues you found along the way.

Did you run into any issues? How did you address them?
Did you provide any goodwill services (i.e. top off fluids or clean battery case/connectors)?
Did you test drive or run any other test to determine if the customer's issue was resolved?
Problems Found
Did you find any other issues in the area you were working on?
Were there any brittle or rusted parts?
Did anything out of the ordinary happen that caused a concern?
Were the customer's issues fixed or are further inspections/repairs needed?
View ArticlePictures
Each technician develops their own way of organizing the documentation process. No matter where you decide to begin, always remember there are pictures required with every step.
Here are the core areas to document:
Warning Lights
Odometer In/Out
Interior/ Exterior
VIN
Damages
Parts (old and new)
Pictures help the customer visualize what work you did on their vehicle and any further issues you found. Before completing your service double-check that your pictures have been taken clearly. Keep reading below for the purpose for each section.
Warning Lights- Take pictures of the instrument cluster while the vehicle is running to capture any service lights that are on, any visual issues with the gauges, and to confirm the customer's mileage. Make sure that the service lights are in focus and can be easily identified.
Odometer In/Out- Be sure to take a picture of the odometer both at the start and at the end of the appointment. This helps track any driving done during the service and helps us determine if the customer is still within our 12 month/12,000-mile warranty.
Interior/Exterior- You will want to document the overall condition of the exterior and interior of the customer's vehicle. Before you start working, do a walk around and make sure to capture all 4 sides of the vehicle's exterior.
VIN- Take a picture of the VIN sticker so we have a record that you worked on the correct vehicle. Always use the VIN sticker in the door jamb, as pictures of the VIN under the windshield are too difficult to read.
Damages- As you document the overall exterior/interior of the car, take close-ups of any visible damage such as dents, scratches, tears, missing items on the vehicle, etc. If you notice any brittle/rusted parts in the area you're servicing, make sure to capture those as well.
Parts- Parts documentation is meant to show more than what parts you used to repair the customer's car. Taking a picture of both the old part removed and the new parts installed helps show the customer that you completed the requested service, creating a better customer experience.
View ArticleAt YM you are paid via direct deposit. Through your app, you can see your finances and see what you have been paid for each appointment. You will also be able to see any parts charges, credits, or any other changes to your pay. Pay is based on the labor hours per job. If you have any labor hour disputes for repairs, feel free to reach out to the parts team to discuss this. However, BEFORE reaching out, make sure to review the repair procedures in Mitchell/Identifix as this could potentially answer any questions you have about the labor time.

View ArticleYou're able to set-up your service area in any way that best fits you but we highly recommend speaking with your regional lead for assistance. From a high level, your regional lead would be able to tell you which zip codes are getting the most demand for your skill level. They will then match it with the distance you are willing to travel.
Once you set up a base with your regional lead you can continue to add zip codes based on demand in the Make More Money section of your app. There you will see a map of your current service area and a list of zip codes with an estimated percent booking increase for your business.
View ArticleDuring the 50-point inspection, you'll be checking important safety features on the customer's vehicle such as fluid levels, brake conditions, and filters. As you work you will record your findings in your technician's app.
The 50-point inspection is required with every service. However, if you have serviced the customer's car recently some of the categories will auto-fill. Thoroughly documenting the condition of the customer's car will help you earn returning customers.

View ArticlePrepare for your appointment by reviewing the job procedure in Mitchell or Identifix ahead of time so you show up ready to work. Reviewing the procedure deepens your understanding ofthe issues the customer might be experiencing, ensures you show up with all the necessary tools, and strengthens your abilityto provide expert advice in a way the customer understands.
View ArticleThere are a number of opportunities to earn more with YM.
After working 500 hours on the platform, you'll unlock a bonus system that's based on the number of quality completed hours you work each week and performance factors like generating new and repeat customers. You'll also be eligible for base pay increases depending on your skill level and the total number of quality hours you complete.
Additionally, you can earn bonuses through our mechanic referral program: one bonus after your referral is onboarded and another bonus once they've completed 25 appointments.
View ArticleCheck-in
The first thing to do when you arrive at your customer's location is check-in through your app. A text message and email are then sent to the customer letting them know you have arrived at the appointment.
Pro-Tip:When you arrive at the customer's car, wait for them there. Do not start working on the car before you've met the customer unless they send you a message stating otherwise.
If the customer does not respond to your call or text within a reasonable time, politely knock on the customer's door to inform them you have arrived.
View ArticleYour documentation is how the customer, YourMechanic, and other technicians get a sense of the work you completed on the customers car. We will go into greater detail later in the program about what to include in your documentation, but for your first appointment lets focus on the basics.
Best Practices:
Document the preexisting condition of the customer's vehicle by taking pictures of its exterior before you begin working.
Take aclear picture of the VIN on the doorjamb before you start working. Double check it against the work order to make sure that parts were ordered correctly.
Point to any damages as you take pictures so the customer can clearly see what needs to be repaired.
When replacing parts, take pictures of the old part removed and new part installed.
If you find any other issues with the customers car make sure to add them to the recommended repairs section of your documentation.
Prior to your first appointment be sure to review the videos Setting Customer Expectations and When to Walk Away from a Job, found in your mobile app under Help Videos.
Asyou complete yourdocumentation, remember that you are indirectly interacting with the customer. After the appointment is complete the customer is sent a copy of your documentation in an inspection report. Be sure your voice notes and pictures are clear, detailed, and straight to the point, as providing detailed feedback will help with customer retention. The documentation process may seem tedious at first, but soon enough you'll be moving through it like clockwork.

View ArticleKnow When to Ask for Help
In order to be a great service advisor and technician, it is important that you understand the issue and steps to resolve it. If you are having problems, ask for help. Admitting that there are things you don't know can be difficult, but the inability to ask for help leaves even the best technicians scratching their heads, stuck in diagnostic loops. When you get stumped and youdon'tknow what to do next, remember that nobody is perfect and turn to your resources, like calling in to speak with one of our Master Mechanics or reaching out to other technicians. At the end of the day, getting it done right and satisfying your customer is how you keep being successful and grow your business.
Show and Tell
Show customers the issues with the vehicle when possible to better illustrate your reasoning. That is one of the greatest benefits of working with customers directly. Use this to your advantage and this will help your credibility immensely during an appointment.
View ArticleSimplify what you can when you can.Once you feel you have a clear understanding of the customers issue, explain the best course of action to them. Remember they may not completely understand technical terms, so simplify your explanation when you can.
View ArticleThere is a time to listen and a time to speak.Youll run into a variety of customers: some who know cars well, others who have done their research, and some who know nothing and just want their car back on the road. No matter the customers knowledge about cars, you must listen to their concerns to help guide them to a successful resolution of their needs.
View ArticleWorking in a shop, you have the advantage of having a service advisor to speak to your customers. The service advisor listens, take notes and explains the next course of action after a technician has inspected/repaired a vehicle.
As a mobile technician, being a service advisor is now a part of your job. Our best technicians have found this role essential in maintaining satisfied customers and a growing business. Always remember to listen, check for clarity, and explain carefully.
View ArticleExpenses can start to add up when you're running your own business. Check below for tips on how to keep track of your deductions so you can get the most out of doing your taxes.
Your vehicle- Because you use your vehicle to operate your business, you're able to use the money you put into your vehicle as a deduction on your taxes. We recommend keeping track of mileage, gas, and cost of maintenance. The exact deductions are determined by a number of variables, so save all of your receipts until you are able to speak to a tax professional.
Tools- In some cases tools can also be deducted from your taxes. Sometimes this applies to tools that you already owned BEFORE joining the YourMechanic platform!
Food- The meals you take during your work hours can sometimes be deducted as well.
Home- Since you may be preparing for appointments at your home, this could potentially get you a deduction for your home office.
The bottom line with taxes is to keep track of all receipts and consult with a tax professional. A tax professional with full knowledge of tax laws in your state and a complete understanding of your work-related finances can give you the most accurate overview of your tax deductions. Work with them to organize your financial record-keeping and plan for tax season.

View ArticleYourMechanic runs regional radio ads to increase awareness and demand for YM services. Mechanics typically see an increase in bookings 3-4 weeks after these ads start.
In addition to higher bookings, this growing awareness in your area creates an opportunity for you to bring in new customers. Weve included here a few suggestions to help you capitalize on the ad campaign and earn a $10/hr new customer bonus (open to mechanics in Tier 1 and above/500+ Turbo Hourslearn more here ).
The new customer bonus applies to first-time customers who book you directly through your public profile. You can find your public profile URL in the app under Menu>Make More Money>Promote Yourself. You can also send out texts and emails from this page that will automatically include an e-business card: your public profile URL and a personalized $10 off coupon for first-time customers.
Read more about the Promote Yourself page here.
Another good idea is to share your profile URL and discount code through social media. To find your discount code, try sending yourself a text or email through the Promote Yourself page.
YM also provides business cards at cost that include your public profile URL and discount code. Sharing business cards with returning customers and leaving cards at your parts store can help you grow your customer base.
You can find business cards and more in the YM Technician Shop here.
Finally, happy customers are a great source of referrals. Within 48 hours of completing a service text your customer to thank them and include your e-business card. If they liked your service they can share your information with friends and hopefully book you again themselves. This way you can generate new and returning customers at the same time!
Radio ads and other campaigns are another way we try to support our mechanics as they build their businesses. If you have any questions or concerns please message your Region Lead.
View ArticleHow do I get my customers to rebook with me?
The key to generating repeat customers is buildingpositive relationships. Read on for ways to create enjoyable experiences for your customers that will keep them coming back and help you earn the $5/hour returning customer bonus.
Before the Appointment
The foundation of positive customer experiences is a smooth appointment. Reschedules and delays due to parts not being available on time, customer misdiagnosis/booking the wrong service, and changes in mechanic availability are common problems that create negative experiences for customers.
Do all you can in advance to ensure that appointments run smoothly. Always call your part store the day before the appointment to verify that your parts will be ready on time. If there's a delay, call the parts department so they can source the part at an alternate store.
Call the customer ahead of time to verify that they have booked the correct service. If you suspect they have not, suggest to change the appointment to an inspection. Explain that they will save money in the long run by ensuring a correct diagnosis instead of just throwing parts at the car. Also, let them know that $30 from the inspection will go toward any service they book as a result of the inspection.
Finally, make sure your availability is accurate at least two weeks out and check your appointment calendar regularly to prevent reschedules.
At the Appointment
Use the 50-point inspection to document any additional issues you find. Always build follow-up estimates from your recommended repairs. (Click here to read more about Recommended Services)
Customers feel more comfortable with mechanics who take the time to explain what work was done on their car and what additional issues may remain. Build trust with your customers by walking them through the service you performed at the end of every appointment, explaining it to them in a way that they can understand.
This is also a great opportunity to explain any recommended repairsyou'vequoted. If you can, show the customer the additional issues on their vehicle. Having that visual solidifies the customers understanding and trust in your recommendations.
After the Appointment
Get in the habit of reaching out to your customers within 48 hours of completing the appointment. Use the Promote Yourself page in the app to send them your ebusiness card. (Click here for more info on your ebusiness card)
The message will automatically include the link to your public profile and a $10 off first service coupon code. In the text thank them and let them know to use the link to book you directly next time they need to service their vehicle. Ask them to share coupon and profile link (this will get you the $10/hour new customer bonus if new customers book you through your profile page!).
Pro-Tip:Whenever you have a first time customer, go ahead and add your coupon code from yourebusinesscard to the appointment. Customers will appreciate the gesture!
View ArticleOnequestion we've been getting frequently is how can a customer book you directly? There are a few ways a customer is able to do this. They can access your profile through the website, you can assist them by sending your profile link from your app, they can also call customer support for assistance. Check below for more details on the ways customers are able to find you when booking.
Customers can book you a few different ways
From Your Technician App
You can send a link to your profile page form the Make More Money tab in your app. From your profile, the customer can book you directly. If you send the link to anew customer, they will get a coupon for $10 off their first service.
Open your app
Click on the 3 dashes on the top right side to open the menu
Then, click on Make More Money
Next, click Promote Yourself.
From here, you can either copy the link, send it by text, or send it by email. Think of the Promote Yourself section as your E-business cards available to help grow your business.
From the customer's account
Customers are able to see a list of the technicians theyve used in the past from their user dashboard under My Mechanics. You can inform your customers to click Book under your profile picture.
From booking funnel
For your repeat customers, you can let them know it will give them an option to filter for your schedule in the booking funnel. This is easiest if you were the last technician the customer book with. If you werent they are still able to find you but its best to tell them to book from their account.
Call Customer Support
We aim to make booking as seamless as possible for the customers. However, if your customer is having issues booking you directly with any of the methods listed above, you can also let them know they can call into Customer Support and an agent will assist them with booking.
View ArticleIf the customer contacts you with stating they are having issues after their appointment let them know to contact customer support and they will schedule time for you to come back out.
If you already have a clear view of your schedule then we suggest calling into customer support team for the customer and letting them know when you would like to go out and check on the customer.
View ArticleThe first click into the appointment you want to reschedule. Once the appointment details loadclick on the 3 dots in the top, right-hand corner. From the drop-down menu, you will be able to see the option to reschedule.
View ArticleThis can be done in 2 ways. 1 If you have a labor discrepancy before the appointment, reach out to the parts team and have them verify the labor time. 2 If you run into a difficult situation in the field and need to increase labor due to a stuck bolt or a mechanical issue, you must first get the customer's consent. Once you have approval you can change the labor time within the app.
View ArticleMake sure to speak to the parts team when building the quote to ensure that both pricing and parts are correct. They will help you to finalize the quote as soon as possible. Depending on the vehicle, this could take some time as they source parts. In these cases, just let the customer know that the quote will be emailed to them and you can always remind them to contact you once they have the quote so that you can squeeze them in your schedule.
View ArticleThere is no direct answer to this question. After each service YourMechanic sends the customeran email form requesting a review for you.
When your out on a service always be personable and professional. Beforeleaving your service askthe customer if they have any more questions regarding the service if they do not let them know you are always looking for ways to improve service and politely ask them to fill out the feedback form that will be emailed to them shortly. This will all help to encourage the customer to write a review after the service!
View ArticleYes you can! First send the quote to the customer and make sure that pricing is not an issue. Make sure to confirm with the parts team that the parts/pricing is correct on the quote. From there, you can use the app to book the quote/customer and add them to your calendar.
View ArticleThere are a few reasons why an appointment is booked without any parts:
Inspection
The appointment may have been booked as an insection. You do not have to pick up tools for an inspection but it is still good to review the work order to ensure you arrive with the correct diagnostic tools.
Customer Providing Parts
Customers have the option to provide parts for any repair appointments. In these cases, the parts team does NOT order parts for the appointment. When installing the part, make sure you are verifying that the customer provided a proper part for the vehicle.
In any case, whether with parts or without, you are still expected to show up and do the job required. If there is a question about parts, always feel free to contact the parts team!
View ArticleIf the part is not in on the day of the appointment, call the parts team immediately to see if they can help source the part. If not, make sure the CS team is informed so that they can help you reschedule the appointment. You can help this process by requesting a reschedule through the app and selecting the option for Part not in on time. Generally, it is a good idea to call your parts store ahead of time (a day or so) when possible, to see if parts are in or will be in by the day of the appointment.
View ArticleWhen you need to return a part to your home store, you will be required to give a PO#. The PO# is specific to the case that the parts belong to. You can then upload a return receipt into the app once received. Note that technicians are required to hold onto receipts for 3 months just in case there are any discrepancies.
To return a WorldPac part, use the app to get a return label and then ship the part accordingly.
View ArticleYes! There are a couple different ways to go about this. You can call into another parts store and see whether they hold the part. If so, you can call into the parts team and have them place the order for you for you to pickup. You can place the order yourself through your home store account (ensure the store is the same company, ie your home store is an Oreillys, you can call into other local Oreillys). If there is an issue placing the order through your account and having trouble connecting with the parts team, feel free to purchase the part yourself and you will be reimbursed for this as long as you submit a receipt to your regional lead. You can also have the parts team help you look if needed.
View ArticleTo change your parts store call your regional lead with the address of your preferred home store.
You are able to change your home store to ANY O'reilly's or AutoZone
As a note, it generally takes about 3-5 business days for your account to be moved to a new store.
View ArticleYou are able to work on the customer car if they are not there ONLYif it is confirmed ahead of time by the customer that they will not be there.
They should leave instructions on where to find the keys to the car or leave you details regarding the onsite point ofcontact.
Once you havechecked for consent and have the customers keys you may begin to work. Be sure to text or call the customer when you are closing the appointment to review the service and let them know their card will be charged now for the service.

If the customer does not have another form of payment
Or
The customer wants to contact their bank regarding the issue
Let them know you will have a customer service representative reach out for further payment information. Once you leave the customers location contact customer support and let them know the customer card declined.
View ArticleIt's in good practice to check your case notes to see if the customer has already notified you that they would not be on site and left instructions on where to find the keys.
If the customer has not left any case notes or not at the appointment when you arrive give them 30 minutes to make contact with their eta. Keep in mind if you arrive at the customer's appointment early you must wait30 minutes past the start of the appointment before leaving the location.
In between time make sure to call and text the customer letting them know you have arrived at the appointment location. This will be documented directly in the customer's case.

Customer Rating: how customers rate your service on a 1 to 5 scale
Completion: how many appointments you complete out of all of the appointments you book
One-Touch Completion: how many appointments you complete on the same day that they are scheduled, without any reschedules or next-day closeouts
On-Time: how often you check in at the appointment location by the scheduled start time
On My Way: how often you send the On My Way notification to your customers prior to arriving at the appointment
Overall Score: an average of all of the categories listed above
Rankings: The color assigned to each category shows how your scores compare to other YM mechanics. If the category is green, that means that your score places you in the top 10% of YM mechanics. Yellow means you score in the top 25% of mechanics, and red means thatyou'veslipped into the bottom 75%.
