Truly a cult-like atmosphere where "radical candor" was a fancy word that was thrown around but did not apply to leadership and their interactions with you only your interactions with others. Also, never expect a prep and you are expected to stay an hour after each day, 2hrs once a week, + wknds.

What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining KIPP?
I wished I had known how much KIPP likes to instill change. Change for the sake of change does nothing more than decrease morale, and waste resources.
How's the morale at KIPP?
Morale at KIPP is typically great from July - September, but after that, it usually drops pretty low the rest of the school year.
How much diversity is there among employees at KIPP?
IT is pretty diverse.
What's the office layout like at KIPP?
Constantly moving, I had 4 different offices over a span of 5 years. They truly have difficulty committing to anything, and constantly change.
What unique perks and benefits does KIPP provide?
No perks that I can mention.
What's the pay like for IT roles at KIPP?
They pay more than average schools, however, based on how much they want you to work, you aren't paid any more than other employers. Bonuses are setup so that you will rarely see one unless you eat, sleep, and breathe, KIPP.
What's the vibe like in the IT dept at KIPP? How many hours are you working?
If you don't have a life after hours, you will fit in fine. If you have a home life, you won't fit in well with them, as they expect you to spend every waking hour being KIPPster.
What's the IT team like at KIPP?
It is a great group of folks, but again, high turnover.
How's the leadership on the IT team at KIPP?
The IT team is great, however, the the upper management above that is lacking in leadership skills. They know how to manage and tell people, but they do not know how to lead.
How long do the interviews usually take at KIPP?
Phone is about 30 minutes, first interview 1-2 hours, Panel interview 1-2 hours. If they require you to submit work, it will depend on how long it takes for you to create the required documents.
How do I do well in an interview at KIPP?
Answer every question as if your life depending on it. Responds with answers that solve the problem completely, with alternatives possibilities if something should go a different route. Be prepared for, "well, what if that didn't work, what would you do," responses.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at KIPP?
The interview process was too lengthy. They state it is to ensure they are getting the best quality candidates, however turnover averages about 25%, yearly.
How would you compare interviewing at KIPP to other places you've interviewed?
KIPP spends too much time with the interview process. We lost 25% of our candidates simply because they were hired by another system before we were able to finish the interview process, or provide them with an offer in a timely fashion.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at KIPP?
I don't recall any question to be any more difficult than another.
What questions do they ask during the interview process at KIPP?
It varies from person to person, but most are geared towards simply how you would address issues they are currently experiencing such as managing student data, implementing Student Information Systems, Analytics, and teaching philosophy.
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from KIPP?
I met with HR rep for the phone interview, then on the first face-to-face, the hiring manager, then on the panel interview the ED & COO. It took 3-4 months to get an offer, then another 2 weeks to negotiate salary.

Wear business attire for your interview.
