Norfolk Southern Corporation Compensation Employee Reviews

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Pension is unheard of these days

Pension and railroad retirement benefits.

Review from Engineering Dept

To be able to opt out of health ins.

It is a negotiated contract

The retirement and medical, as long as the government stays out of it.

It keeps me from looking elsewhere

The retirement, executives will not budge on a new contract even with record profits at our expense

Retirement plan is what keeps people from leaving.

The compensation is fair, we receive annual raises around 3%

Meets average in the industry

Retirement and medical are excellent.

Review from Operations Dept

Great competitive pay, pension, bonus and merit awards.

Review from Operations Dept

The best part of my comp is the retirement benefit

Review from IT Dept

The retirement plan is great and health insurance is very cheap compared to other companies but the stuff you go through makes it hard for a black man in this company

Review from Engineering Dept

Pay is fair. Bonus package ok..

Insurance is fairly priced for a family

Review from Operations Dept

Productivity fund payment in Dec

Review from Operations Dept

Hopefully my retirement and health care

Review from Engineering Dept

Hourly! Wages should be higher!!

Review from Operations Dept

lower co pays then most people I know

Review from Operations Dept

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

a raise better pay better health care

Pay and benefits need to keep up with inflation

We are the lowest paid class I railroad in the country and the 2nd worst to work for as rated in 2021 by Best Places to Work. UP, NS, and CSX (all class I railroads) make up 3 of the 5 worst companies to work for. Management says disgruntled employees caused that. Alternatively maybe its really true

Always trying to fire you

The moment you accept a job with NS they will actively find a way to fire you. It is the culture of the management. It is toxic and gives employees a feeling of shame and resentment.

Don't make enough for your skill set, need better pay

Go back to not having to pay a monthly premium for health insurance. And back to the the coverage the way it used to be.

Setting on our contract on time and not trying to fire all employees

Deserve more hourly pay. Bonus pay should not fluctuate. Benefits should be better not get worse.

Listening to employees that actually know the job and not just management that don't know the job that all they want to do is cut cut cut! They cut everything but lavish new corporate buildings. The second in 3 years.

Because leadership has no perspective of the job they are responsible for.

I've not had a pay raise in more than 2 years.

Pay what the contract stats the company agreed to. They do not honor the contract and the union has no power to do anything.

I feel like a number at NS. No one has ever asked me about my future, and no one has ever discussed my options...in 13 years. Nothing will change NS.

Review from Operations Dept

We want to feel like the company actually does care about us. We're the last on their list of importance. They have no problem laying men off who have gave them years of hard working service. They not honest with us nor forth coming on laying us off without notice

Review from Operations Dept

Our insurance keeps getting worse and we keep paying more for it. We need paid better for what we do and days off

Review from Operations Dept

Very underpaid lowest paying major railroad there is everyone else makes twice as much

Review from Operations Dept

Bring it up for all the time we spend away from home.

Review from Engineering Dept

National wage for our wages

Review from Operations Dept

Stop trying to raise our health coverage payment while our stock is at record high. People at the top make tons of money while we pay more. Typical.
