Norfolk Southern Corporation Leadership Employee Reviews

What do you like best about the leadership team?

Pretty fair most of the time

They are open to doing this different looking ahead

There is no leadership. Our current timetable is 2012.

Local leadership is good. Management is rotten from the top down.

Review from Operations Dept

My leadership team is aligned. They are focused on getting to 60 OR.

Review from Operations Dept

They are doing good, keep making progress

Review from IT Dept

Leadership at NS is incompetent and under experienced at best. They have no understanding of the tasks at hand or the processes it takes to complete them.

Review from Engineering Dept

They know what they are doing

Review from Operations Dept

Hard to answer that we don't have any communication with them.

Review from Operations Dept

The leadership team have given a specific plan for lowering our operating ratio and ensuring we continue to grow with our high velocity mindset.

Our CEO seems very intelligent on the business side our company is climbing up while others are falling the company needs to return the favor to there hard working employees that make this happen day in and day out

Review from Engineering Dept

Knowing they are fighting to get us work at our shop

Review from Operations Dept

They leave me alone to do my job. They don’t do this for every subordinate position though.

Review from Operations Dept

They have relaxed rules and have pursued on time performance and getting the work done efficiently

Review from Product Dept

They are always looking for more businesses to haul for

Review from Product Dept

Not all but alot management team i would consider a boss and not a leader (Boss is someone whom has no consideration for their employees and are solely focused on advancement and not what is best for the company as a whole including its employees) (A leader looks out for his team and the company )

Review from Operations Dept

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Local leadership spends all their time making superficial changes to make it look like they are trying to help employees but core issues remain unresolved

How to manage employees and create a better environment for all employees.

Becoming a leader not pushing their work on everyone else to do for they can leave early

Treat employees like people not machines, we have families and want outside of work life too

Knowing the jobs they supervise, respecting their people, showing care and compassion, learning from others, and not having the typical I'm a leader so I know the best way to do everything attitude. Good leaders surround themselves with people that are smarter than they are, and they listen.

Building better relationships with the employees in the field keeping the trains moving.

Concentrate on running trains they forgot their a transportation company

Leadership should focus on customer service and safety of operations. Trains transport the worst of hazardous materials through highly populated areas. NS doesn't seem to consider the collateral damage a derailment can cause to the people that live or work nearby.

Admit there wrong and take constructive criticism

Attitude truthfullness organization locomotive knowledge respect

Team doesn't exist, we have no leaders

People skills. Create an atmosphere of teamwork, instead of harrassment.

Running freight and maintaining equipment!

They need to first of all understand that the employees are the drivers for meeting corporate financial targets. Treat your employees right, appreciate them, teach them to become better individual contributors and managers, communicate respectfully and don't be dictators.

Less micro managing and more trust in lower managers.

Leadership team would benefit from having prior experience, not just a degree that says they should be able to do the job.

Leading, rather than managing. Give some focus to people, not all to metrics.

Review from Operations Dept

This company doesn't practice diversity at all there have been many instances of discrimination but a large powerful company is hard to prove this without them firing you and destroying your credibility when I first was hired in the 2000s there was Noose hanging in thier old carpenter shop

Review from Engineering Dept

Planning and executing, deconstruction of existing silos.

Stop trying to fire everyone for any little thing. Train masters are ALWAYS out to give you a start or something similar.
