How employees describe working at PayPal

Great Employer, good perks and benefits

Overengineered and slow to change. Lots if meetings.

The company has been in decline since covid

Customer Service. It is second to the USPS in worst customer service I have ever experience. I cannot even get a rep to provide me with an avenue to complain on an employee, as they continue to dance around the topic and hang up on me. This is what happens when you outsource...

Not very good, good colleagues but just a number

Managers pick candidates from their teams who have been closest to the manager and have done the manager's bidding. Then these candidates are referred to the skip level managers , who based on their rapport with the manager decide if they will promote the candidate or not. There is very little merit based decision making that happens. How well you talk, how much you market yourself, who you know , what influence they have and how much smoke and mirrors you have sold matters the most

  • Favoritism, politically, threaten to quit and if they like you enough they'll give you a raise or promote you

  • They pick their favorites.

Good managers for your direct are hit/miss. All of higher managers wanted their ideas even if it wasn't right and caused issues.

  • Leadership has a tendency to "cherry pick" employees based on favoritism rather than performance, experience, and merit.

  • Being genuine. Being ethical. Eliminate favoritism. Have emotional intelligence. Planning. Follow ups. Being able to actually communicate. Enable people to succeed. Transparency

To focus more on the employees. I feel like they do not care anymore. We went from a fun atmosphere to a negative atmosphere. They are micromanaging everyone. They even let someone go after 15 years with the company

  • Hard work and dedication would mean something. I wouldn’t have to kiss up to the management to get what I want. Sometimes it is so discouraging I don’t know why I bother trying to do a good job

  • Pay the engineers at least market rate.

Getting help from teammates can be hard if they work remotely or don't have regular hours. After you get settled in it's not a big deal, but for a new team member it would be easier if people were always around to answer small questions as soon as they come up.

  • Just getting used to the other team members

  • Ramping up can be difficult if your team works from home a lot and aren't aren't to answer questions.
