What are the team outings like at Regal Entertainment Group?
Boring and catered to what the manager of the department wants.
There aren’t any.
What's the company culture like at Regal Entertainment Group?
Horrible. Regal is more of a cult than a Company.
A handful of executives who are each in charge of too many departments constantly reminding people to follow their profit maximizing rules.
What do people at Regal Entertainment Group think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The CEO looks out for what is best for the bottom line. The effect that is has on employees is never a consideration.
Most employees do not have a very high opinion of the CEO. She did not have a history in the entertainment industry prior to becoming an executive for the company less than 10 years ago. The company has become all about maximizing profit at all costs since taking charge. I’m sure the investors are very happy with her, but any employee who was here before she came knows the previous CEO had a much better handle on balancing a successful business with being a good employer.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Regal Entertainment Group?
Manager need to treat their employees like people. Quit expecting employees to do the work of two people and pay them a fair wage. Employees are paid way below market for what they are asked to do. Allow employees to think for themselves and quit asking them to conform to what you want. Regal is more of a cult than a company.
I would offer all theater management better wages as well as the opportunity for full time hours with benefits. All pay rates would be raised to be inline with local retail establishments rather than simple minimum wage positions that don’t even compete with fast food wages in some areas. I would also make merit based raises more available to employees who consistently perform well. I would de-emphasize the number of payroll hours a site can use and have more employees that answer to the corporate office in the field that can evaluate based on active observations of the locations if they are using their payroll wisely. I would re-establish proper corporate and field training programs so managers and employees have a better handle on proper procedure. Finally I would bring back theater promotional contests where sites decorate and engage with the community in order to promote family films.
What's the interview process like at Regal Entertainment Group?
Very slow and painful.
Not entirely sure other than that once interviews are done a number of people will get involved evaluating them.
What's the office vibe like at Regal Entertainment Group?
Horrible. Employees are spied on and micromanaged to death. You are not allowed to think for yourself and are expected to conform to the "Regal" way.
My understanding is that the corporate office can be fairly laid back, but that there are a few executives that can spoil the mood pretty quickly.
How's the vacation policy at Regal Entertainment Group?
The vacation policy is very antiquated. Given that most employers begin vacation accrual at day one, Regal is way behind the times. Employees have to beg to get their time off.
The vacation policy is fairly reasonable as far as how many hours you get. Although managing to get a full time position that offers them is nearly impossible. It can also be difficult to get vacation time during holidays because they can be some of the busiest times of year.
What would cause you to leave your job at Regal Entertainment Group?
It would not take much. They are many jobs with better pay, benefits and culture out these that will treat employees with respect.
A job with comparable pay without weekend or late night hours.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at Regal Entertainment Group?
It is nearly impossible. You are asked to do the work of two people for way below market pay.
It’s not very hard. Most of the people I’ve worked with are people I end up spending time with outside of work as well.
How rewarding is your job at Regal Entertainment Group?
Not at all
Some days are better than others, it was much more rewarding with the original CEO in charge. Things were looser and more fun, now everything is restricted to making sure specific numerical goals are met.
How's the feedback proccess at Regal Entertainment Group?
Negatively. Anytime you make a suggestions you are given an excuse as to why they can't get done or you are just looked at with a stone face and not acknowledged.
Not great. Everything gets passed up the chain to a few Regional managers and executives and they generally don’t make any changes.
What kind of people succeed at Regal Entertainment Group?
People you are willing to conform the the "Regal Way".
People willing to work much higher than their pay warrants.
How secure do you feel at your job at Regal Entertainment Group?
Not at all. You are always at their mercy and it you will become the next target.
I feel that I’m relatively secure as long as I keep completing my required work, although if the company cannot improve their atmosphere as a whole I don’t know that they will exist until my retirement.
How do you feel about Regal Entertainment Group's future?
If they don't become open to the current times, this company will not survive. You can not expect people to sacrifice their home lives for such little pay and belittle them in the meantime.
I feel that if the company cannot make major changes they will have a hard time staffing their field locations. Turnover is high due to low pay, restricted hours and lack of benefits. The retail jobs near theaters generally pay better and offer more hours or benefits. The company is currently extremely profitable due to their restrictive practices, but I believe they will soon find locations that they cannot adequately staff and will be forced to either meet the pay and benefits of other businesses in the area or shut down locations completely.
How's the work pace at Regal Entertainment Group?
The volume is ridiculous and you are expected to do it for basically pennies.
The work pace can be quite high at times. I am often tasked with doing the work I was hired for as well as monitor the work of others in a way that causes me to have to rush to get my required work complete.
How challenged are you at Regal Entertainment Group?
They workload is unobtainable. I am challenged each day to make myself come to work but I am never challenged professionally or feel that I am growing professionally.
Works loads can be higher than I am capable of completing in the time allotted but mentally I rarely find myself challenged in any way.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining Regal Entertainment Group?
How shady and unprofessional the management team is. Favoritism is rampant throughout the company and the unprofessional on the part of the management team is unbelievable. Tell anyone that you work for Regal and all you here is "I hear they pay horrible".
What's the office layout like at Regal Entertainment Group?
The office right now is laid out to where everyone has an office. Soon we will be moving to a fancy new office where everyone has to sit in cramped cubes where everyone can hear and see everything.
What part of Regal Entertainment Group's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Based on what I’ve seen their liquor and bar business appears to be growing extremely rapidly, but traditional concession sales are slouching due to pricing that appears to be more overpriced than ever.
What interview questions does Regal Entertainment Group ask?
It has been so long since I last interviewed for a position in the company I could hardly guess.
What benefits does Regal Entertainment Group provide?
Median quality healthcare for full time employees, corporate employees get most holidays off, free movie passes for employees.
How's the work life balance at Regal Entertainment Group?
Depending on who your position answers to it can be fairly reasonable. But holiday scheduling is always a difficult process.
How does Regal Entertainment Group make decisions around promotions?
Generally interviews are given and then the interviewee has to wait while managers, district managers and some times regional managers or executives mull over their decision. There isn’t a great deal of opportunity for promotion in the company overall, but when it comes up it isn’t a swift process.
How common is it to switch departments or teams at Regal Entertainment Group?
It doesn’t seem to be very common at all.
How common are layoffs at Regal Entertainment Group?
On the theater level they only seem to happen when a building is closed. Job postings would indicate that the corporate office has a revolving door though.
