Sonder began in Montreal, with a small customer service team. They worked double-duty throughout the entire pandemic and taught all of the new hires, but as soon as Sonder recovered from the pause in travel, all of these employees were laid off, because it's cheaper to hire in the Philippines.
What did you like most about the interview process?
Very long interview process, like 4 different stages.
What needs to change to make the company culture better?
There's a lot of talk about company culture, but nothing to show for it. Quite disappointing.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
Layoffs were done by a member of the leadership team, the CEO did not bother to show his face, despite being in the trenches with us three years ago. Too good to care now.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
Sonder is changing their model, they used to have native english and french speakers as customer service, but recently changed to focus on outsourcing for lower cost in labour (philippines). During my time working with outsourced employees, half of my job became fixing their mistakes.
