Executive Bio

Mr. Gregory D. Wells, also known as Greg, has been an Executive Vice President of Daily Operations at Southwest Airlines Co. since January 10, 2017. Mr. Wells served as Senior Vice President of Operational Performance of Southwest Airlines Co. since October 2013 until January 10, 2017 and served as its Senior Vice President of Operations since September 1, 2006 to October 2013. He served as Senior Vice President Ground Operations from November 2005 to September 2006. Mr. Wells is responsible for Ground Operations, as well as Departments of Cargo and Flight Dispatch. He oversees Southwest's Ontime Performance initiatives which include implementing key strategies to keep the airline's operation efficient and timely and as Emergency Director, he oversaw the airline's response in the event of a crisis. He served as Vice President of Ground Operations of Southwest Airlines Co., since September 2004 to November 2005 and was its Emergency Director. Mr. Wells began his career with Southwest Airlines in 1981 as a Ramp Agent and held various positions. In 1996, he earned the role of regional ground operations director, then became senior ground operations director in 1997. He assumed the helm of flight dispatch at Southwest Airlines in 1999 as its director. After the events of September 11, 2001, Mr. Wells was promoted to Vice President for Safety, Security and Flight Dispatch at Southwest Airlines. He is a 25-year veteran of Southwest Airlines with a broad background of operational experience including that of Southwest's station manager in both San Jose and Phoenix where he led all aspects of the airline's operations in those cities.
