Q&A With Weis Markets Employees

Asked to all employees at Weis Markets

  • Become a serious competitor to top-end franchises like Whole Foods, Wegmans, Trader Joe's, etc. Stop trying to place a front-facing placard on a really rough behind-the-scenes trash bin. This brand of Weis has some respectability, but they are squandering it on really bad and, in some cases, dangerous behind-the-scene activity. Raw chicken and meat product production set up within a few feet of fresh produce like sandwiches and pizzas. Zero training on safety and sanitation, aside from absurd online training modules that are not taken seriously.

  • More opportunities for full time employment withOUT needing to be in management and better incentives for hard workers than a 10 to 30 cent raise per year. Could also include better benefits for the part timers, which are near nonexistent.

  • Give more hours so we aren't so short staffed. It makes our jobs more difficult and stressful. Intern it's bringing down our moral and making us not want to be there and do less and causes good people to leave. Our upper managemnent especially our store manager is not nice and very ondescending. Never any praise just comes around and looks for things to pick.

Once a year, though don't get your hopes up too high if you are non-management, because it is usually only between a dime to a quarter a year, depending on how useful you are to the company and your work ethic. Of course, managers and leads get more-- about 50 to 75 cents per year.

  • This is a bit subjective because each store is different when it comes to location and volume. The store I work at is a midsized one, so depending on the time of year and even the time of week or day it can go up and down. Weekends and holidays can be hectic, especially also if a snowstorm/ice storm or a tropical cyclone like Sandy or Irene is forecast. As stated by another poster, how well your store is staffed can play a big role too. Generally the middle of the week is the tamest period for many stores, Tuesday-Thursday.

  • Demanding at times because our store is very busy and short staffed.
