Q&A With Jo-Ann Stores Employees

  • i only got a .25 cent raise every year. during the pandemic, we were given a $2 raise. so i would work for $10 an hour. which was decent. Then it was taken away. When I left, I was getting $8.50 an hour after there for five years.. My last paycheck was under $200 with all the hour cut backs

  • I haven’t had a raise in five years. Once you hit the wage-cap for your position, you’re stuck.

  • You get an "anniversary raise" each year, of 20-25 cents, but when the minimum wage goes up, if the new minimum is more than you are making, you only go up to the minimum, in effect losing all your "loyalty/anniversary" raises, so in CA where the minimum has gone up every year, long time employees are still getting the same wage as new hires with no experience.

  • Horrible

  • Horrible. Coming from a Store Manager. Your salary will drop your earnings to levels below the hourly ASM when you factor in all the unpaid overtime and you will be working many hours for free. Holiday season is extra special; you will have to work 6 days a week during November and December so you will have absolutely no time to enjoy with your family. If you are a team member, work life balance is fine. You will barely get any hours because there are none to give.

  • I work 8 hours, leave and am expected to return to work in less than 8 hours, so there is no life other than 2 days off per week, which are not concurrent. No weekends off.

Terribly. You have to go through hoops to get answers and worse to have anything done. If you need to speak to payroll, don't bother because NO ONE will answer your calls or emails. HR at Jo-Ann Stores is a title with no real HR support. It's as though there is no HR.

  • They have the worst HR department that I have dealt with

  • Send the problem to someone in the main office in Ohio.

  • Mid-management was laid off 3-4 years ago so the only leaders are store manager and assistant manager.

  • The managements okay, nice enough but not consistent

  • For the most part the managers just sit in the office and only interact with other employees through radio. Not very often are they seen at the registers or cutting counter or assisting customers. Would I call this leadership? Not so much. I find most of the managers to be extremely lazy.

  • Insanely. Daily. We have a large bottle of ibuprofen in the break room and you know when someone is coming in for their shift when you hear it rattle. The stress and pressure from a management perspective is unreal. They refuse to provide more then the bare minimum of hours and constantly increase the workload with the poorest communication, often changing direction as the other person mentioned. If you work here, you will be working your a— off every day with the most incompetent corporate directions.

  • Very. Have you complete a huge task, only to undo that task a few days later. Management can't make up their mind or regional manager tells manager to change the previously completed action.

  • Challenged to cut corners.
