  • I personally am not happy with the new CEO. This is a railroad industry but he wants to run it like a business. I understand there are needed improvements but there are things that should just have been left alone.

  • Yes. Depending on performance and other metrics. There is a bonus based on company's overall on time performance of train service and financial responsibility

  • There is a teleworking policy but it depends on the individual departments if they are going to implement it to the group or not.

  • Jobs are generally posted internally for a week before they are posted externally. The best way to get ahead is to take initiative with the group that you would like to work with or have greater responsibilities with, and to discuss with the senior people in that group how you could move ahead with them. In that, they would likely keep you up to date on personnel needs.

  • It all depends on the department. In the department I was in, your work speaks for you. In other departments, from what people told me, it's who you know.

  • Poorly. It rarely has anything to do with how well they do their job.

    Somewhat depends on where you are, but as a non-agreement employee, it's not a very happy vibe.

  • Depends on the department. There are departments that are more formal than others.

  • Depends somewhat where you are, but I'd say a lot of people at Amtrak are unhappy, and mid-level management (which causes a lot of the unhappiness) doesn't care. They're too concerned with how they are being perceived by their higher-ups.
