The people are what keeps you here. Not the ones from above but the ones on the ground with you. Unfortunately, we have had many of them leave, and it gets harder every week to be motivated to stay. I've had a great time for almost 12 years, but I've never been more unhappy than I am these days.
What makes you most happy at work?
Working with my team. They are the hardest-working people I know. We have gone from a team of 7 to a team of 3. Work is madness, but we can still meet together and play games and have a blast.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Leading and giving direction. They seem to be just going by gut feelings and floating through the office with blinders on. Random deadlines are thrown out without data to support the plan or engaging the employees to see if they are realistic.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Outside of stating the cliche that we are a family, we do collaborate and care for one another. It used to be better. Loads better. Now I look around at my meetings, and it's more consultants than employees. The comradery isn't as strong, but from the few that remain; it's still strong.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Nu Skin used to be a top-notch company in Utah. However, with the booming growth of Silicon Slopes, they haven't been able to keep competitive with salaries. If they want to call themselves a tech company then you have to pay like one. It's no wonder why attrition is at an all-time high.
