Barnes & Noble Compensation Employee Reviews

What is the best part about your compensation package?

The employee discount is killer.

Review from Sales Dept

Discounts on all the books.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Everything, paid vacation good benefits

Insurance package is decent but could be cheaper

Review from Customer Support Dept

employee discount of books and technology.

Review from Sales Dept

I know that I will always be taken care of

Review from Sales Dept

They take advantage of part time workers. They often schedule them 30-40 hours every weeks, so you're basically working full time without the benefits that the full time workers receive.

Review from Sales Dept

Store discount on most items

Working carefree and for my family

Actually having health insurance again!

Review from Sales Dept

I really don’t know, honestly.

Paid vacations are the best

Review from Sales Dept

It seems comparable with that of other companies

the people are great and work as a team

My health benefits are very good

Has a decent medical Insurance plan for management employees

Review from Sales Dept

I like that you get to have benefits in this company.

Review from Sales Dept

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

the manager never listens to our requests no matter how simple.

I do the job of a senior bookseller but have been skipped over multiple times. Being promoted and the raise that come with it.

Unwillingness to listen to employees actually on the sales floor

I feel under paid and I see no moving up in the company

The workers and I are expected to do a lot more than what we are paid for. I always leave work worn out and exhausted because of the tasks we complete that are not listed in our job descriptions for what we do in a day

We should be making at least 12 an hour, or for those of us that know the entire location (bookfloor, receiving, cafe, checkout, customer service) we should be paid accordingly.

Review from Sales Dept

I took a serious pay cut to work here, and was told that after the holiday season, pay would be determined by experience, but I’m still making as much as first time employees, while I have

Review from Sales Dept

The raise between levels of work is a joke in comparison to how much more work has to be done. From bookseller to lead it’s only $.75 raise and they want you to do. 3000x more work. Managers are about t

Review from Sales Dept

More hours, benefits for part time, slightly higher than minimum wage

Review from Sales Dept

I'm paid less than other employees to do much more and much harder work. I'm completely taken advantage of.

Review from Marketing Dept

I feel like I have to neglect my personal daily tasks to take on management daily tasks that are not my direct responsibility. I like having extra responsibility and accountability, but I wish priorities were better established and I could be paid better for taking on management tasks on my own

Review from Sales Dept

I feel that compensation should go up as the year pass

Review from Customer Support Dept

Almost all employees are now part time as so to avoid paying benefits--many long time full time employees were demoted to part time. However my issue is the toxic work environment, and think that the management structure is unclear, inconsistant, patronizing, and racially flawed to say the least.

Review from Sales Dept

I work as a barista here, selling Starbucks coffee, and it's a shame that we don't get paid nearly as much per hour as a real Starbucks employee does.

Review from Sales Dept

Employees are not paid enough to survive.

Review from Customer Support Dept

After 4 years of work I have received four raises totaling $0.85. I once received a raise of 5 cents after getting a glowing customer service review and employee review.

Review from Sales Dept

I'm a part time employee but they schedule me full time hours and I get no benefits.

Review from Sales Dept

as a part time worker i only get my hourly wage and employee discounts, no other benefits

Review from Sales Dept

I make minimum wage despite working in the store for over two years

Review from Customer Support Dept

This company removed full time employees so they could provide less benefits to other employees
