What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership Reviews

My managers treat us like people

Knowledgeable, fun, concerned about people.

Most seem to actually care

flexibility from two of my managers but not the third

Open and honest. He is willing to call you out on mistakes, but never puts you down.

Review from Sales Dept

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Leadership Reviews

I am part of the leadership team and i cannot give clear direction or support to my team because priorities are always shifting or corporate lists everything as the top priority. So disorganized.

truly understanding the employees and working around their life outside of work

The Lgbtq+ tolerance and behavior

Being more nice and responsive

Review from Marketing Dept

The store manager is an incompetent child that wouldn’t know how to merchandise if his life depended on it. They fired anyone with any sort of experience and have never been able to bounce back from

Review from Sales Dept

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

The employee discount is killer.

Review from Sales Dept

Discounts on all the books.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Everything, paid vacation good benefits

Insurance package is decent but could be cheaper

Review from Customer Support Dept

employee discount of books and technology.

Review from Sales Dept

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Compensation Reviews

the manager never listens to our requests no matter how simple.

I do the job of a senior bookseller but have been skipped over multiple times. Being promoted and the raise that come with it.

Unwillingness to listen to employees actually on the sales floor

I feel under paid and I see no moving up in the company

The workers and I are expected to do a lot more than what we are paid for. I always leave work worn out and exhausted because of the tasks we complete that are not listed in our job descriptions for what we do in a day

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

They work hard and they enjoy the product and enjoy engaging with the customers around the product.

We all respect each other

Great communication and great managers

We are a team but that is just my similar ranking team members, we do not have a good relationship with out manager

They are valuable in that they come to work looking forward to seeing their customers. We have a great community and we love our crowd.

Review from Sales Dept

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

The managers need to communicate and share information. They do not communicate and employees are set up to fail.

Review from Marketing Dept

Because no one is really held accountable because everyone is--in itself a horribly ineffective and embittering tactic-- there is no real move towards significant improvements. This uncertainty often leads to an unnecessarily stressful environment

Review from Sales Dept

Be less worried about offending and be more comfortable

They also feel unappreciated and underpaid so it really comes down to management and the overall planning of the company. Upper management not taking the work of lower level employees seriously.

Review from Sales Dept

They are wonderful, maybe less sarcasm

Review from Customer Support Dept

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

The company has a negative culture. The stores tend to have a somewhat positive culture. Managers tend to insulate their subordinates from upper management and the overwhelming feedback and communication that comes at them. They are like the filter between the top and bottom.

Customer interactions and diversity makes it a great place to be.

developing relationships with customers with similar interests

We foster a learning environment and are constantly on the lookout for our customers, whether it’s recommending a book or talking to a new parent. Their translates into our personal lives in management where we know and can trust the managers to be there

Review from Sales Dept

everyone can joke and laugh

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

Environment Reviews

Better lgtbq+ behavior and acceptance

Leaders need to keep business lives and personal lives separate.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Take better care of employees. Regular and legitimate raises, options for healthcare after long term employment.

Review from Sales Dept

nice culture, peaceful and positive

Our home office's timing of ruling out new programs, new systems, and upgrades...etc...isn't always thoughtfully planned out. Have assentives /bonuses for the whole management team not just Store Managers

What did you like most about the interview process?

Interviews Reviews

The relatability with the manager

It was relaxed and more of a conversation. It also set up the relationship for myself and my current assistant manager.

Review from Sales Dept

Simple hiring process. Easy to apply, and quick follow up.

I liked that they asked questions about experience, and had me try to “sell” my favorite book, and defend it to make sure I really

Review from Sales Dept

My manager was kind and made me feel at ease.

Review from Sales Dept

What would you improve about your company's interview process?

Interviews Reviews

Managers to pay attention and not group 15 candidates into a single hiring interview.

Review from Marketing Dept

What makes you most happy at work?

Outlook Reviews

Being around books and like minded people

leaving my job after my shift is over. i also like the discount.

Little kids who need help finding something great to read

Working with books and coffee

Books, meeting interesting people, the discount

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Outlook Reviews

The store managers are in charge of setting up the store, but it should be left to the merchandising managers that actually know the product and what customers want.

Review from Sales Dept

The managers at Barnes & Noble lie and steal from the store. No-one calls them on this.

Review from Marketing Dept

The company needs to focus less on random knick knacks and coffee and technology, and more on BOOKS.

Review from Customer Support Dept

The disproportionate stress level the managers and company have indoctrinated in the employees in toxic and unproductive, often leads to hostility, bitterness, and frustration.

Review from Sales Dept

The management needs to be more compassionate and considerate
