I love the books, and so many of the customers and even some of my cooworkers, however I think the treatment of it's employees, especially the cashiers had led to an ineffective atmosphere. They also really need to update their technological services because it is dating them quickly.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
Their commitment to the success of the bookstore no matter what.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
The disproportionate stress level the managers and company have indoctrinated in the employees in toxic and unproductive, often leads to hostility, bitterness, and frustration.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
Because no one is really held accountable because everyone is--in itself a horribly ineffective and embittering tactic-- there is no real move towards significant improvements. This uncertainty often leads to an unnecessarily stressful environment
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
I love the books-- and while some people who I work leave much to be desired, there are also many coworkers and customers whose love and appreciation of books manages to keep the job from being wholly negative
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Almost all employees are now part time as so to avoid paying benefits--many long time full time employees were demoted to part time. However my issue is the toxic work environment, and think that the management structure is unclear, inconsistant, patronizing, and racially flawed to say the least.
