From recent experience, it’s hit or miss. Really depends on your project. More importantly, your leader/ boss plays a large role in advocating for you. If you don’t have that, you’re screwed. Leaders go into meetings and discuss potential promotions...if you don’t have the advocacy of your boss, you have little chance. You’ll also need to self advocate and be willing to develop an internal brand, schmooze the cliques, and be very recognizable. Your work may be run of the mill, but extra effort spent selling others on how great you are seems to pay off.

  • Best Buy is about who you know.

  • easy as long as you're good friends with the managers, otherwise good luck

  • 20-45 mins

  • You will have three interviews. The first is a phone interview with the front office manager, one with the manager of the department you apply for, and one with the store manager. None of them take very long and mine were very relaxed.

  • Best advice i can give is you wont know everything right off the bat. It is ok to not know everything and know how to respond to every situation. Don't be afraid to ask questions to your peers or leaders, as they are more than willing to answer and assist. That of course being said, attempt to learn as much as you can, because if you don't there will come a time where you must do your job alone, and if you cannot do it correctly, they will find someone that can.

  • It may seem rough, some manages love the fact that there in charge so they will let you know, but just keep your head and do your best it will get better

  • Best Buy I would say is pretty innovative, but is limited by the pricing and size of the stores. Most stores cannot store all of the tech that people want, and usually leads to telling customers to order online or go to another location.

  • They use to be the leader, but the internet has forever changed that.

  • It's honest, hard work, yes the managers and even supervisors can be demanding, but it gives you money, a small discount. Since it is retail you will be needed mainly on a Friday-Sunday Shift

  • Depends on what role you apply for. Most of the time they are going to ask describe a time you went above and beyond a client. Or how do you keep up with the latest tech, how do you deal with a client who is upset, how do you get the trust of your peers

  • This is very dependent on the role you are applying for. Line level will be based on your ability to preform the role. Higher levels, senior analyst and manager roles, will be about strategic thinking. One question asked of a senior manager was, "how many pizza huts are there in America?" This is about strategic thinking, not just kicking out an answer. Remember it's also about your audience, who is interviewing you. Keep that in mind.

  • Personally depending on what is going on I get 25-35 hours a week. More if there is finer detail work needing done. The vibe can be exhausting. We get there way before the store opens and are constantly on the move. But its good busy work.

Asked to the Operations Department at Best Buy

  • We are a good bunch of people. We can joke with each other as long as we are getting the job done. It is an easy job that can be tedious (read detailed) at times, but good because of the people.

  • It depends. Some people are cut out for it and some are not. It is a high turn over if you can't do the work and won't work hard. I have had a few bad eggs but a lot of my team is like a family.
