How does Costco make decisions around promotions?
Top Employee Response
Attendance And work ethics
From what I've seen it's all politics. Some qualified people will make it if they play the game right, but most qualified people will continually get passed up and will either leave the company or just give up and stay topped out doing the minimum. Its usually extremely subpar people who say yes to everything that get promoted and are held up by their subordinates. Its a wonder to me that the company even runs, but that's because Costco has some of the best low level employees that stick around for the benefits.
Depends some time seniority sometimes managers faviorites

What's the work from home policy like at Costco?
There is a strict, no scheduled working from home policy. That is, you can't have any recurring WFH days set. Otherwise it's up to your manager to allow them. For example, on my team we are allowed to WFH if you have the cable/repair guy coming, or if you were doing on call duties into the early morning.
There isn't one. Employees who are not warehouse workers are expected to be in the office at all times, aside from scheduled appointments and occasional one-offs. No regularly scheduled WFH time is allowed at all. In addition, all employees are forbidden from taking vacation time during the months of November and December to support the business, regardless of position.
