I'm incredibly lucky to be working here. Carbon has allowed me to pursue roles that other companies would have kept me from due to not having the proper background, and helped me thrive while trying new things.
Briefly describe your overall experience at your company
I can't imagine a better place for a young professional. I've been able to chart out my career and pursue things that are interesting to me, not that I am told to do. I'm rewarded for my outside-the-box thinking and I've been able to do some really cool things as a result.
What are some of the best things about your team?
I work with smart people.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
self-organized activities and little acts of irreverent fun that we get up to.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
They do their best not to mire us in bureaucratic bullshit and c-level competition.
What makes you most happy at work?
being able to take time to work on things that I care about, not just my core work.
What are some of the best things about your team?
My team is experienced and capable. I like the balance of veteran engineers and new talent bringing enthusiasm in.
What makes you most happy at work?
Every once in a while, I get to do some mad scientist shit which pays off and is super fun.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
If we were open about pay levels, or at least stopped claiming to be paying fairly while also withholding pay scale information from employees.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
I like having two CEOs instead of one figurehead. I implicitly trust Craig to make ethical and responsible decisions and to look out for us. Phil is OK too :)
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
There is an atmosphere of prioritizing the customer and getting to the best solution, not the most expedient one. If a big issue comes up, it is not uncommon for an organic group of passionate people to come together and fix it quickly rather than let it sit.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
My work is incredibly important and saves the company a lot of money, but because of the area I work in, I am not paid proportional to my impact. It makes me want to become an OK software engineer rather than do a job I am great at. I would make a lot more money.
