Executive Bio
Dr. Kenneth E. Washington, also known as Ken, has been Vice President of Research & Advanced Engineering and Chief Technology Officer at Ford Motor Company since August 18, 2014 and June 1, 2017 respectively. Dr. Washington leads Ford's worldwide research organization, overseeing the development and implementation of its technology strategy and plans. His 28-year career includes serving at Lockheed Martin, Enterprise Business Services and Sandia National Laboratories in nuclear engineering, information systems, super-computing, information privacy and R&D space technologies. Prior to joining Ford, he served as vice president of the Space Technology Advanced Research and Development Laboratories at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. In this role, he was responsible for leading an organization of approximately 700 scientists and engineers in performing research and development in space science and related R&D. Previously, he served as Lockheed Martin Corporation's first chief privacy officer, a role in which he built privacy program, set the privacy strategy direction and established a team of privacy professionals to execute the strategy. He also served as the vice president and chief technology officer for the Lockheed Martin internal IT organization, where he was responsible for shaping the future of its information technology enterprise. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin in February 2007, he served as chief information officer for Sandia National Laboratories, where he also served in a variety of technical, management and program leadership positions. He serves as a Director of AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp. Dr. Washington has a Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degree in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University and is a fellow of the MIT Seminar XXI program on International Relations.
