Our executives make six-plus figures a year and I can't afford to live in the community I cover. They refuse to give raises, only the promise of future layoffs. Oh, and they are slowly bleeding dry the fourth estate to make a couple bucks. Awful company.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
Our readers don't believe our paper is even based in our community any more. And the company has gone out of its way to make that impression worse.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I've now worked in three different markets, getting a pay raise each time I move. I have never been able to afford to live in the communities I cover.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Pay the people who do the work more. And apologize for your COVID response. When the COVID pandemic started, an executive who makes six figures a year claimed her not taking a quarterly bonus was equal to hourly employees living paycheck to paycheck being furloughed for weeks at a time.
