HealthStream Outlook Employee Reviews

What makes you most happy at work?

I love what I do and my teammates and customer we work with.

Posted 15 days ago

Our customers are a joy to work with, and we've welcomed quite a few of them to our team!

Talking with customers and understanding their goals and how we can help them achieve those. Collaborating with the team to develop a plan to move them along.

Interacting with my customers and my colleagues.

Closing buisness and building relationships along the way

What I do matters. It matters to my family, friends, and most importantly to patients who we ultimately serve.

Helping people who help people

Happy customers and end users - using our platforms as a tool to decrease health care disparity in this country. Bringing quality care to the disenfranchised.

A great vision, mission and group of people to collaborate with and help continue to build the organization.

Review from Marketing Dept

The satisfaction I get from solving difficult problems.

I most enjoy doing my work.

Review from Communications Dept

I like the variety that comes with my work at HealthStream. There is never any drudgery. Everyday is exciting and new.

Review from Communications Dept

Getting to work on projects and talking to my co workers.

Review from Communications Dept

Although I am an intern, and I may not be the expert on Excel, my team has shown me that they are confident in my abilities and trust me to work big projects alongside them. What makes me the most happy is the fact that I have freedom in my work, without being hovered over or given strict directions

Review from Product Dept

Working atmosphere, work with people

Review from Engineering Dept

As a member of the sales team, the best part of work is seeing all your hard work culminate in a sales. The company does a good job recognizing sales accomplishments.

Review from Sales Dept

The day goes by quickly. Boredom does not exist at HealthStream. I also like that I am not micromanaged. I am trusted by my peers to get my work done and also so grow and expand my horizons as much as I'd like. Every opportunity is there for the taking, and I am always supported in what I do.

Review from Communications Dept

The everyday challenge and positive community of my coworkers.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Nice customers. Like the ability to make a difference. Feels good when there is success. I like my direct manager

Review from Sales Dept

I enjoy the different people that I interact with on a daily basis and my work.

Review from Finance Dept

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

The company re-orgs routinely, and there has been a ton of turnover, and we're left with nobody knowing what anybody's job is, and very low tenure in almost every position. To be moderately successful requires long hours and incredible resilience and figuring things out yourself.

Review from Product Dept

I think the poor management causes problems with satisfying customers.

Review from IT Dept

1. Middle and upper management in the IT dept does not listen. 2. Managers have competing agendas and this has resulted in leaving people out of the loop and tug-of-war in projects. 3. Managers spreading misinformation to other managers about employees on their team. 4. Need more transparency.

Honestly just compensation. While leadership acts like they listen to our feedback, they will do everything except give us competitive pay. It's the main reason why I'm considering leaving.

Review from Engineering Dept

Bobby's personal wealth prevents him from relating to employee retirement needs. He should lean in and work to understand how retirement plans can benefit hstm by retaining talent. Turn over and loss of institutional knowledge hurts hstm more than any other place I've worked bc of the complexity.

Review from Product Dept

Working hard (long hours, arduous tasks), but no sense of accomplishment. For example, no big closed wins despite lots of efforts and hours worked.

Review from Sales Dept

Would like to be given more of a leadership role.

Executive Leadership needs to listen to the employees and customers. Its not as rosey and nice as their leaders and managers are telling them. Things are broken and need to be fixed. Major problems that have been long term are still ignored.

Our dept is seen as more a necessity rather than a strategic partner. We are constantly considered last, and have to fight for small improvements to be approved. HR is used to the execs benefit when they see fit and then ignored with they no longer need the dept.

Healthstream is too concerned with processes to the detriment sometimes of the work being done. A process is great but it has to fit the work. It has to make sense with what it is being used for.

Review from IT Dept

Leadership should not make fun of her staff behind their backs with her inner circle staff members. It always gets out. The culture has really suffered with the change in regime. A focus on caring for and about staff vs. just productivity would be nice.

Review from Product Dept

Implementations pose a struggle. The timeline is way too far out. Communication from Product Managers needs to be more in sync and training can always be improved.

Review from Sales Dept

Very little structured career growth. No clear path to promotion.

I don't always feel challenged in the work that I do or always enjoy the work. I don't feel like a valued employee by management.

Review from Customer Support Dept

I am constantly taken away from my actual job duties to be to help with other projects or roles. I'm asked to support customer facing jobs when my role is not customer facing, which is a huge change for some people. It could be improved if we could stick to the duties we were hired for.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Too few people to do too much work right now. We need to hire more help!

Review from Customer Support Dept

Even though the company is represented as supportive and fun in the beginning I have not experienced that during my time here. I was not given proper training or information to do my job successfully. I also have not been given clear cut guidelines as to what is expected concerning the customers.

Review from Customer Support Dept

I'm still learning things I didn't know prior to coming into this sector of healthcare. I just need to keep learning.

There are foundational data issues preventing us from meeting our customer's goals, at times.

Review from Sales Dept

Leadership needs to be replaced. Leaders who value and are able to retain their employees should be put in place.

Review from Sales Dept

What do you like best about your company?

The positive impact of the solving problems and providing solutions

Review from IT Dept

Authentic, leaders who are motivated to make a positive influence on the delivery of quality healthcare

Review from Finance Dept

Our Constitution and values and our commitment to them.

Everything. Leadership, work that we are doing, career growth opportunities, support from the managers and leadership

Review from Design Dept

The culture, the transparency, our affect on the healthcare industry.

I like the culture and capacity to achieve professional growth.

Culture! The People! The employees make this an amazing company to work for.

The best things are working hard, lots of accomplishments, not too much micro management, but mostly working from home.

The flexibility of work life balance.

I like my coworkers the best

Review from Product Dept

Appreciate the communication form leadership, management, management support and working with a great teammates.

Review from Sales Dept

It is a very open and friendly environment

The culture makes me enjoy starting my day.

It's well managed, solid foundations. After years in startups I value the stability.

We're innovative and making a meaningful impact.

Review from Operations Dept

I like HealthStream's culture and transparency

the people and culture of healthstream

It's mission-driven and works to solve big problems in healthcare.

Review from Design Dept

It is highly mission driven

Review from Product Dept

Most everything -- good product, kind people, enjoyable work, meaningful business.

Review from Finance Dept

What would you most like to see improved at your company?

There needs to be a feedback loop from the folks doing the work to mgmgt. I do not feel like the feedback I provide to my manager is ever passed along to their management.

Review from IT Dept

I would like to see the benefits improved and to see more flexibility for remote work across the board.

Staff appropriately to support growth goals. May need to staff up or add capacity in certain areas to achieve profitable growth while delivering outstanding products/services/customer experience. Some capacity may be needed as an investment to achieve growth targets. Compensation is too low.

Review from Finance Dept

Most defined product road map and little better compensation.

Review from Design Dept

Benefits and compensation could see some improvement

Better health insurance options for families.

More functional cross-team coordination and performance.

competitive compensation, better 401(k) match, appreciate your employees!

Pay and resource allocation. It's hard to perform above and beyond when you're under resourced. Not meeting goals is very discouraging.

Flexibilty of remote work without feeling intimidated by those above, or like it's privilege, especially when so many companies are working this way.

I would like to see people with the responsibility of having staff to be trained in how to be a manager - how to speak to their staff, how to assist their staff in improving their position in the company, etc. Too often people are promoted to manager but they don't know how to behave as a manager.

Review from Product Dept

More interaction with the C suite. I've never had a conversation with the C suite team member over my group.

More customer support reps and nailing down the ever challenging customer implementations.

Review from Sales Dept

Pay and benefits need improvement and more opportunity for advancement.

Healthstream can be too process bound. I'd like to see us push harder at doing new things, especially technologically, and treat process as secondary, not as a primary work product.

More competitive pay, more investment in the quality of our products, improved communication across teams.

Review from Operations Dept

Pay does not align with cost of living. It is difficult to find safe & affordable housing nearby even after multiple raises and promotions. The overall culture is amazingly positive and caring but the pay makes you question if leadership really cares about their employees.

Review from Finance Dept

leadership, management, and collaborative skills of managers/AVP

Compensation and retirement benefits. I would also like to see better inter-department communication. I think we do a fairly good job; however, there is room for improvement.

Review from Customer Support Dept

So much is good. If I had to pick one thing, it would be that a lot of energy is wasted in internal competition between business units.
