Dr. Marcia J. Avedon, Ph.D., has been a Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Communications & Corporate Affairs at Ingersoll-Rand Plc (also known as Ingersoll-Rand Co. Ltd.) since June 2013 and served as its Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Communications from February 2007 to June 2013. Dr. Avedon served as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources of Merck & Co., Inc. from January 2003 to 2006, where she was responsible for all human resource strategy, programs and policies. She served as the Vice President of Talent Management and Organization Effectiveness of Merck & Co., Inc. from September 2002 to December 2002. Prior to September 2002, she held several senior human resources positions from 1995 to 2002, at Honeywell International (formerly AlliedSignal). She served as the Vice President of Corporate Human Resources at Honeywell International from August 2001 to September 2002. Dr. Avedon served as Human Resources Chair of United Way Of Central Carolinas Inc. She served as Vice President of Human Resources & Communications, Performance Polymers & Chemicals at Honeywell International from October July 200 to July 2001. She served as Vice President of Human Resources & Communications, Performance Polymers at Honeywell International from October 1997 to July 2000. She served as Director of organization and leadership development for the Engineered Materials sector at Honeywell International. She also held corporate and division human resources and organization development roles with Anheuser-Busch Companies. She began her career with Booz-Allen & Hamilton, spending six years as a management consultant specializing in human capital and organizational development practices. She has been a Director of GCP Applied Technologies Inc. since February 3, 2016. She serves as a Director of United Way Of Central Carolinas Inc. She served as the Board President for a non-profit agency, Jersey Battered Women's Services. She has been a Member of Advisory Council at Ingersoll-Rand Plc since November 2010. She served as a Director of Lincoln National Corporation from May 12, 2005 to March 9, 2006. She serves on the advisory boards for Cornell University's Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies, University of North Carolina, Charlotte's Belk College of Business and Rutgers' Center for Human Resource Strategy. She is a member of Women Corporate Directors, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, HR50 and the HR Policy Association. Dr. Avedon holds an M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from George Washington University, as well as a B.A. in psychology from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
