Never worked harder, but also never worked smarter. People have flexible schedules depending on their needs, and weekends, for me at least, almost never require me to work. I work my butt off when I am at work and on the shuttle, but can almost always assume I'm done when I get to my front door.

  • Your mileage will vary significantly in terms of work-life balance. There are quite a few people who coast; they do enough work to stay relevant, but seem more focused on the "lifestyle" at Facebook. For many people, it is very intense. Product managers in particular seem to have the worst work-life balance (6:30 AM start, emails until 11:00 PM) due to the insane number of people and connections that have to be in alignment to get things done.

Having a vision. I know it's hard to keep focus at a large company, but Facebook does a remarkably good job at keeping a core vision.

  • I can focus on what I want. If that's code, I can spend the biggest part of my day on it.

Amazing. Smartest, hardest working people I've ever worked with. Egos are mostly in check and most are team players. Better still, they quickly identify people not pulling their weight and they help find a better role for them or ask poor performers to leave relatively quickly for such a big company. I feel valued, I feel like I have strong experts around me, and I feel like we're all on the same team.
