Ship product that was ordered. Customer service is extremely poor. They informed me that they would ship the missing box to me overnight. This did not happen. Weeks have gone by and this is time sensitive material.

The competitive nature gets very toxic very quickly. Some of the managers are lazy. Low staffed. Customers complain about lack of staff, lack of willingness to help by some managers, and the lack of training some employees get.

A decent place to work. Great vacation and benefits if you work on the business solutions side. You also have more opportunity to move up and grow. Depends on the manager that you have if you feel that you are valued and respected. Currently I have an awesome manager that is very good

What does the leadership team at Office Depot need to get better at?
Top Employee Response
Giving back to lower management . Return ourholidays with pay is one thing they can do for us
Training. I am a new employee and the training was minimal. Learn by making mistakes that make customers move to another company.
Listening to the field. Too many decisions are top down and "Right now" driven versus making a long term strategic value play.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Communication of actual goals. Pay based on performance. No artificial ceilings on pay.
I only have issues with a few of the management. The rest of my coworkers are supurb.
Pay attention to details. This is a job not a social gathering
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Low pay for management. Need to be paid a competitive wage to keep management. Now I know why they are always hiring management
Pay scale should be posted so you can be motivated it
they keep eliminating positions and make people pick up the slack but there's only so much you can do, we don't get commission anymore
How's the work life balance at Office Depot?
Nonexistent unless you’re a corporate employee.
For management not so good.
Seems there is not a balance. I feel like I’m always on call.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Customer service. I have not seen any other company that makes sure all customers are greeted and asked if the need help.
My coworkers and the customers
Great teamwork with non management employees.
What makes you most happy at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Making a customer happy with their service.
The general day to day problem solving is fun.
Working with coworkers, finding solutions for customers.
What are some of the best things about your team at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Truly a cohesive unit because of the teamwork mentality but overall morale is low in general
We work so well together. We can joke around with each other and we have each other's backs when it comes to sales.
Most are very friendly and willing to help when needed.
What's the pay like for Sales roles at Office Depot?
Very LOW!
VERY LOW AND THE SO CALLED COMMISSION OPORTUNITIES ARE A JOKE.
Sales floor associates and cashiers all get minimum wage. Raises are minimal at best.
What benefits does Office Depot provide?
Health insurance and PTO.
Benefits are very good compared to lots of companies... health dental vision 401k also separate disability for additional small fee.
Health insurance. Paid time off. Probably other stuff no one tells us about.
What do people at Office Depot think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The store level associates sees the CEO as out of touch and puts very little value on the face of the company “The Store Teams” its all lip service and very little monetary incentive and understaffed logistics conditions. They could share the wealth in many ways to instill more brand pride. They spend money at the corporate level liberally and do it well. Example water for just the corporate employees.
The people in my store don't really have an opinion of the guy. We'll never meet him, we know he doesn't care about us personally, so we don't care. If he visited stores and worked with us, doing actual grunt work, I think we'd respect him more.
The CEO has made zero effort to engage the rank and file. We see other huge cooperations using the massive tax break to give at least a small piece back to the employees. That's obviously not going to happen here. Basically your typical 'for the share holders' - 'screw the employees' highly paid executive.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Few hours and low pay. The exhortations are often unachievable.
we need to invest in proper tools and our executives need a reality check. the rewards program drives away customers
Need to value your associates and hire management from within and not just put people into position.
What's the company culture like at Office Depot?
High expectations for little pay and no real future. Not a great opportunity for stable growth. Phony upper management.
I think they are trying to improve the culture but need to step outside the box
Most people are fairly disillusioned with the company, at least in my area. We get tired of the company putting profit above the well being of the employees.
How's the vacation policy at Office Depot?
It was fine as a full time employee but I don’t get the hours as fast
For the corporate employees good. For the store level employees it stinks!!
Good now since they have consolidated sick time, personal time and vacation time as Personal Time Off (PTO)
Do you have team outings? are they fun?
Top Employee Response
Never. Only the corporate employees have any team building events or any get together. The store employees are totally disregarded as insignificant.
no we do not
Not all of corporate has team outings, I've been there 2 1/2 years only have had one outing in that time. Many of us have high regard for those who work in the retail area of the business as it is not easy work and not everyone can offer great customer service.
How long have u been working there? U like it?
11 years this january most times
Almost 4 years. I like the retail experience and the insurance benefits and the challenge but I do not like being treated like a non valuable unappreciated unaffordable burden.
6 years, not happy with the direction company is going
What is the best part about your compensation package at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
I am only part time so I do not receive any benefits.
Nothing is great....it seems to be going downhill.
Car Allowance, Bonus Structure.
What are your coworkers at Office Depot like?
I love my co-workers and get along very well with them.
They are all different and still work together and give it their all for the team in spite of very low pay or loyalty to the company incentives. We all function as a family but learn to accept each other’s differences.
Excellent. I would put them against anyone in the field
How's the morale at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
not the best the moral has dropped in my store in the last year or so
Pretty bad. Most employees aren't getting enough hours to survive and there's no incentive to exceed management expectations.
I've only ever met one other employee that truly enjoys working store level
What's the Sales team like at Office Depot?
Exhausted. They're pulled in too many directions.
Cut throat some times
As a lower end store manager its ok as long as the Store manager is a fair person
How's the leadership on the Sales team at Office Depot?
It's every man for himself.
The corporate sales teams do not handle the back end of the sales leads we generate at the store level properly. There is a lot of room for improvement. On follow through.
Don't trust them, every body is watching themselves in fear of upper management
What's the vibe like in the Sales dept at Office Depot? How many hours are you working?
I work full time and the vibe is quite discouraging. No one is happy with all the changes.
The vibe is fair at the store level but could much better if there were better incentives
Very unhappy with current management and only able to work 18-21 hours a week. Even at the busiest time of the year can never be over 29 hours
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Office Depot?
Hire experienced managers at both the store level and corporate level. Require management to "get in the trenches" with us.
Better pay and benefits. I would put more emphasis on team morale building and promoting OD brand loyalty by offering all employees health insurance benefits, profit sharing and instilling pride in ownership with discounted stock options and a real retirement or pension plan. I would focus on true development of individuals with promise and potential. I would teach the salespeople how to sell and close and motivate them to ith a realistic commission structure.
Better pay for the management team & give us our holidays back! We have families too!
Do you usually see talented co-workers leave your company?
Top Employee Response
Yes, they have all left or at leaving as we speak.
yes for better pay better hours
Yes all the time
What do you like best about the leadership team at Office Depot?
Top Employee Response
Leadership has recently changed. Lot's of energy, down to earth. Making fast changes to create a positive outcome.
I am able to work with rather than for them.
Friendly and responsive to requests.
How long do the interviews usually take at Office Depot?
Depends on the hiring manager and how much they like to talk
It varies.
30-45 mins
