How employees describe working at Office Depot

Compensation was less than what I requested when hired. Expected to juggle and be proficient in many different granular tasks. Have to meet wildly inflated rewards and sales goals in order to receive higher wages and be promoted.

They offered me more money than I asked for.

Customer service, policy, ethics and all around service. They make up their policy by location and nothing is in concrete with the company. Each location closes earlier than other stores

A lot of responsibilities for not a lot of money.

It was awful. Managers were awful. I quit because if the way a manager treated me as well as costumers.

  • Give commission on anything that is a service that needs to be sold, you’ll see employees motivated, try giving them a chance to make a decent check if they put in the hard work. It will change the selling attitude create competition within the team and it’s gonna be enjoyable for the employees because they are growing and making some extra cash.

Asked to all employees at Office Depot

  • about even both ways

  • I feel I know my job and do it quite well and serve my customers to their satisfaction! I can answer their questions and get them through their shopping as fast as possible yet keeping them satisfied. I also try to keep my area clean and neat at all times and do whatever ptojects may be asked of me. As far as job security the scheduling manager keeps cutting my hours and I’m downto about 9 or 10 hours per week and more associates are being hired. The scheduling manager has scheduled a lot of people out of hours and I myself was not scheduled for any hours for about three weeks in a row. When I inquired why I was not scheduled the store manager found a few hours for me to work those weeks, and I’m not the only one that has happened to — it’s as if the scheduling scheduling manager has a problem with you — you don’t get any hours!

  • I do not feel secure at all. There is very little upper management support regarding career development. Very Political.

Asked to all employees at Office Depot

  • Depends on how you define smart. The answer is a literal yes but the way we are regarded at the store level is far from appreciative or recognized.

  • Short answer, no. If employees have been there long enough, then things are better, but the new people just flat out don't care. It comes down to; "You get what you pay for." The company pays crap and gets crap. That's why so many of us who've been here for years are moving on. We're tired of going behind the new people who don't care and redoing everything they've done wrong.

  • Some smart people are remaining but many have left. There are a lot of not so smart people left who are making driving the company into the ground faster.
