Q&A With SEPHORA Employees

Asked to all employees at SEPHORA

  • Full-time employees in Engineering are 60% Indian. Managers are now almost 90% Indian. There's a pro-Indian, racist vibe that goes undiscussed by the larger business. Ironically, off-shore and J-1 Visa folks are mostly from Central Europe, as they put a European-centric staff augmentation in place to counter-balance the rapid hiring of Indians and give it a veneer of diversity.

Asked to the Engineering Department at SEPHORA

  • Engineering Leaders (Directors and Above) make good industry salaries. For the last decade, Sephora's generous bonus structure and exceptional company performance has resulted in 50% bonuses for senior leaders. The bonuses for Engineers below this level are half that. And their salaries are comparable to other retail outfits -- but not as high as some more glamorous places in the startup and social media world. Then again, it's very much a 9-5 job with 4 weeks vacation for everyone, Friday afternoons off in the summer, and tons of perks.
