  • State Farm looks at skills and roles industry-wide and then pays about the median for that job title.

  • Pay is decent but not as good as most IT companies (from my understanding). Most would range somewhere between $45,000 and $120,000 - depending what you’re doing, experience, tenure, etc. One exception is Security which tends to go up to about) $135,000.

  • Depends on who you are referencing. The people who take the phone calls are so stressed out because you are timed on the phone calls and still have to do a vwry demanding job.

  • PTO is the only bucket for both sick time and vacation time.

  • You earn a number of hours based on the years of service. It never equates to full days earned, mainly hours. It is far worse than before and you are limited on the number of days earned or used. Excessive absences is frowned upon and chances are you'll be disciplined for excessive use.

  • On average about 45 hours is worked but sometimes more. This is not common at State Farm however as I am on a unique team.

  • Most teams tend to depend on a select number of individuals that are highly skilled. There are many individuals in IT that should not be (various reasons that include unskilled, unmotivated, untrainable, etc.), and have been able to avoid being noticed due to management’s technical ineptitude.

  • The leadership is primarily too busy to focus on the development of the employees. This is not directly their fault as they are taxed with so many responsibilities that it is impossible to focus on the people they manage. The primary concern is the approach that management does not need to technically understand what their team does. This makes it impossible to accurately understand and evaluate their employee’s work, and prevents the ability to understand the magnitude or impact of an effort being taken.
