How does State Farm Insurance measure success and growth in the Sales department?
Measuring success and growth in the Sales Department at SF are oxymorons. The company has seen its business shrink the last couple of years. Management is out of touch with the marketplace and stares too much at its navel. However they paid themselves big bonuses for losing about 1.5 million auto policies in 2017. Sad state of affairs.
Unfortunately in the wrong way: by looking at unit sales instead of premium or revenue from sales.
By units instead of premiums. Ridiculous
How long do the interviews usually take at State Farm?

At least an hour
What's the pay like for Operations roles at State Farm?
Decent, but wages and bonuses aren't growing at a rate comparable to company profits. Very disappointing.
Starting salary below average and raises no more 2% per year. Any extra bonus is only awarded if the company itself does well and is profitable- so they have been small.
Very good in Claims to offset the stressful environment.
What's the pay like for Sales roles at State Farm?
Unattractive because the company has not been capable to figure out how to price its products competitively across the board primarily because of a bloated, ineffective bureaucracy that is not customer centered.
Leadership over the sales department (agency force) is overpaid for what they contribute. Too many layers as well.
Extremely low base pay with almost unattainable sales goals.

We don’t have them anymore

How does State Farm make decisions around promotions?
Politics more than competence
Promotions are based on consensus and whether the manager likes you. However, with all the job reductions, promotions are few and far between - if at all.
Your manager decides if you get a promotion
Does State Farm have any remote positions?
Not any longer. Remote working and teleworkers were highly promoted a few years ago, but recent IT Transformations caused them to completely revoke remote positions and all employees were given severance notifications. ALL work is now expected to only be located in one of four locations and relocation will not be offered if your work/job is moving. Even then, if the work is located in one location and you move, the work may move somewhere else a few years later and again, no relocation will be offered. You either move yourself or find another opportunity. Morale is low and highly skilled remote workers are leaving.
I work in one of the hub centers and the department I am in we only work 2 days a month in the office. I believe it may vary by position. But certainly only going in 2 days a month is pretty close to fully remote. I am very happy and grateful.
Very few

What's the vibe like in the Operations dept at State Farm? How many hours are you working?
45 - 50 hours. The vibe is that Executive leadership makes poor decisions and is not looking out for the best interest of the workforce.
Terrible vibe. People are miserable and live in constant fear. They are shamed for not having a perfect file or quota and management is conditioned to not praise.
7.45 hrs per day, 5 days a wk. Unless it's year end and management says your required to work overtime and threatens your job if you can't work extra hours
What's the pay like for Design roles at State Farm?
Mid-range market rates.
Below average
Average.
What's the vibe like in the Design dept at State Farm? How many hours are you working?
Laid back and easy going. The usual complaining about company culture and wasting time on good work that goes nowhere. Overall, a decent place to chill.
7 hours a day
Low pressure, but frustrating and hopeless because the business side of the company doesn't allow much of anything new or original go beyond an internal presentation.
What's the pay like for Customer Support roles at State Farm?
For me, it's great. Annual merit increases and bonuses
Comparable
Not good. You have to do the job of a specialist but they pay you support pay.
What's the vibe like in the Customer Support dept at State Farm? How many hours are you working?
The verdict is still out on the vibe because it's ever-changing. A typical work day is 7.75 hours for 5 days
It’s bad for the offices that are being closed
The vibe? It stinks. People don't care about their jobs and are there for a paycheck. Hours are less than 40 hours a week but the demanding job makes it feel like 60.
How's the leadership on the Customer Support team at State Farm?
Depends on where you are located
I don't think they have a clue. They just keep piling on the work and won't make changes that help the customer as long as it looks good on paper, that is all that matters.
No clue, can’t be that good.
What is the best perk or benefit that State Farm Insurance offers?
Good pension benefits if you’ve been around long enough to be entitled to them
Great perks only in hubs
How hard is it to get promoted at State Farm Insurance?
Difficult. Doing a good job just doesn’t guarantee a promotion. Taking insurance education classes and being mobile (willing to relocate to another part of the country) helps
Hard. Unless you make friends with all the managers and be overly helpful. They say it's based on your metrics but don't be surprised when you've been watching your metrics all in good standing for months and you ask to be considered and they tell you that there's a new criteria they are using now and that new thing is the one thing you didn't score 100% on.
How are the career growth opportunities on the Operations team at State Farm Insurance?
Horrible. I was just told by my boss “you don’t wanna get a reputation for interviewing for every opportunity that comes up”. People in Professional/technical and management positions are mainly lifers, so opportunity is few and far between.
Not good. The company is not only reducing higher skilled staff with lower skilled, cheaper labor, but they have also reduced the amount employees receive for merit raises and annual bonuses. We've made billions as a company this year yet wages and bonuses do not reflect the companies gaines from their tax break and stock by backs. So the answer is currently not good at all.
What's the internship program like at State Farm Insurance?
Depends on the department
You'll be treated like an employee.
How are the benefits at State Farm Insurance for employees in Sales?
For company employees the benefits are out of line excessive. For the Agency (sales) force they are well below par.
Lousy since most sales related employees work for agents that cannot afford to offer attractive benefits given their independent contractor status.
What skills do you need to be successful in the Customer Support department at State Farm Insurance?
Practice customer service, be confident, learn more than what training taught you. Show concern and ask questions when unsure
Being detail oriented
How helpful was your Customer Support team when you were first hired at State Farm Insurance?
Very helpful
Awful
In your opinion, what are the most common interview questions that State Farm Insurance asks?
How do you handle a challenging situation if there is no management available
Are you flexible with your hours? Shifts are based on customer need.
How would you compare interviewing at State Farm to other places you've interviewed?
Seems difficult and unnecessary
When I interviewed for my positions the company actually cared about their employees and the customers. The interviews were intense and you had 2 panel interviews with 3-6 managers on each panel and each lasted 30-45 minutes. The company use to look to hire educated, competent and professional people. They have since been getting rid of all their competent and experienced workers to save money and hire anyone with a pulse. In our office they even hired some people without even interviewing them so I doubt the interviews are anything like they were in the past, especially with the excessive turnover, but expect behavioral based questions.
