Executive Bio

Mr. Bharat Desai Co-Founded Syntel, Inc. in 1980 and served as its Chief Executive Officer from April 1980 to February 2009 and also served as its President from April 1980 to December 21, 2006. Mr. Desai has been the Co-Chairman of Syntel, Inc. since February 1999 and has also been its Executive Director since April 1980. Mr. Desai serves as Director of ExpenseAdvisor and Cyberstate.org. He serves as a Member of the Young President' Organization (YPO) of Detroit and serves on the Boards of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and St. John Health System. In 2004, he received the award for IIT Alumnus of the Year from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology and was also recognized this year by Crain's Detroit Business as a Minority Business All-star. He received the 1999 Michigan Entrepreneur Award from the Harvard Business School and was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year in 1996 by USA Today, NASDAQ and Crain's Detroit Business. Mr. Desai holds an MBA in Finance from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, India.
