Mobile App
Sign into the Zipcar mobile app and visit your account page. From there, select Driving Creditto view your current balance. To redeem a promo code and add more credit, select the + icon in the top right of the screen. Enter your coupon code, click redeem, and your earned driving credit will be added to your account.

Visit https://members.zipcar.com/gift/redeem to redeem your promo code or gift card. Youll be asked to sign in with your Zipcar credentials. Once signed in, enter your promo code or gift card in the gift code section, and click redeem.
To view your newly added driving credit, visit the Billing page of your account. On the right-hand corner of your screen you will see your credits, where your earned driving credit will be displayed.

View ArticleHourly and Daily Rates
The hourly rate is the base cost when reserving a Zipcar and the daily rate is the maximum reservation cost for a 24-hour period. Select the time you want to pick up and drop off the Zipcar and well give you the best deal depending on how long you reserve.
Keep in mind that the daily rate doesnt necessarily mean you have the vehicle for a full day; youll still need to return your Zipcar by the end of your reservation time.
Hourly-Only Zipcars
We have some cars that can only be reserved by the hour. When the daily rate isn't listed or appears as "N/A" on the reservation page, a day isn't rate available.
Overnight Rate
Many cities have a promotional overnight rate for reservations between 6pm and 8:30am, Monday through Thursday nights. The overnight rate varies depending on the vehicle and location, and our system will automatically charge the lowest available rate depending on the length and time of your reservation. Please note that if you scan into your Zipcar before 6pm or extend your reservation beyond 8:30am the overnight rate will no longer apply.

You will receive a 6-digit code that will expire in 10 minutes. Once the verification is complete, keep an eye out for another 6 digit code via text to the new mobile phone.You will need to enter this new code within 10 minutes. This will update the phone number on your account and be usable for 2-way communication.You will receive an email notification of the updated mobile number.

To add a driver to an existing account, click here. Under Join as an individual, select I've been invited to join an existing account and enter the email address associated with the account. Once found, you will be taken through the application process.
Once your application has been submitted, the account holder will be able to approve the request to join the account. When the request is approved, the application will be processed by Zipcar.

When joining an existing account, the account holder will be responsible for all billing matters.

View ArticleIf you have the Zipcar iPhone or Android mobile app installed, you can unlock and lock your booked Zipcar right from your phone. To get started, make sure you have the following setup:
Your Zipcard is activated
Your mobile device is registered
Location sharing is enabled on your mobile device for the Zipcar app
Once your ride is ready to begin, the lock and unlock icons will appear in the Drive screen of the app.
Note
Members should always carry their Zipcard with them during a trip. In the event your phone or the vehicle go out of cellular reception, your Zipcard will allow you to continue accessing the car.
Your phone and the Zipcar must have cellular reception and be within close proximity of the car for the lock and unlock options to appear in the mobile app.

View ArticleFind your Zipcar Once you reserve, you will receive a confirmation email with directions on finding where your Zipcar lives. You can also find these same details on your iPhone or Android mobile app by clicking See where I live when looking at your current trip.
Unlock your Zipcar At the time of your reservation, hold your Zipcard against the card reader on the windshield. Hold it steady for a few seconds and the scanner will turn green, and the doors will unlock. Once you've scanned in, you can then use your Zipcard or phoneto lock and unlock the doors throughout your reservation. Do not use the key to lock and unlock; the key should always remain inside the vehicle.
Do a Quick Once-Over It is important to inspect your Zipcar at the beginning of your reservation and report any issues through the Zipcar mobile app.

I haven't received my Zipcard
While we understand that you may be excited to get out and drive, Zipcards can take several days to arrive.
If the address on your account is not up to date, log in to your account page. Once your address has been updated, fill out the form below to request a new Zipcard.
If it has been more than 7 business days since your Zipcard was sent, select the Contact Us button below to request a new one.
Note
If you live in an apartment building, dorm room, or on college campus, provide your apartment/box number and make sure your name is on the mailbox in order to ensure delivery.
I lost my Zipcard
If you lose or damage your Zipcard, verify your address is correct on your account page and request a replacement card using the Contact Us button below.
Once a Zipcard is requested, it will take several days to arrive by mail. Until you receive and activate your new card, you won't be able to reserve Zipcars.
We're happy to provide one free Zipcard each year. Additional replacement cards are $15 each and will be billed directly to your account.
Your account must be in good standing to receive a replacement Zipcard (no current balance, up-to-date license information, and a clear membership status).

We are unable to provide a partial or full refund of any damage fee waiver or membership fees after the first 30 days. If you decide to cancel your membership within 30 days following approval, the membership fee can be refunded.
Any additional drivers on your account will also be closed. You are always able to remove additional drivers on your account by clicking here, navigating tomy stuffand selectingmy account.
If you have a remaining balance on your account, it will be charged or credited to your credit card on file when your account is closed.
View ArticleNo one likes to talk about fees and fines, but they do happen from time-to-time. Below are the common fees:
Late Returns : $50 per hour (up to a maximum of $150), plus the vehicle usage charges.
Low Gas : $30 if you return a vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of gas.
Zipcard Replacement : One free replacement card per year ($15 for each additional card).
Ignition Key Replacement: If you lose the key, the replacement fee is $75 plus costs for materials and labor.
Reservation Changes :There is no charge if you cancel or shorten your reservation with the required advance notice. The required notice is located on your reservation confirmation.
Tickets/Violation Processing : You are also responsible for paying any parking tickets and moving violations incurred during your reservation. If we receive a notice and process a violation, you will be charged a $30 processing fee.
Damages : Up to $1,000 to cover the costs related to an accident.
Other Violations: $50 per violation, plus costs incurred by Zipcar anytime a visit to the vehicle is required (including visits due to smoking or pets in the vehicle).

View ArticleEvery member who complies with the membership contract is covered by Zipcar insurance while driving a Zipcar. In the case of an incident, members are responsible for a damage fee of up to the first $1,000 of damage to the Zipcar vehicle, and all further damage is covered by Zipcar insurance.
The damage fee can be reduced or eliminated with the purchase of an optional damage protection plan. Zipcar insurance also includes third party liability coverage and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) or "no-fault" coverage. All third party liability and PIP coverage meets the minimum requirements of the state or jurisdiction in which an accident occurs, and the full extent of coverage varies based on a member's age and location. To see the details of your third party liability coverage, please read the "Third Party Liability" section of the Zipcar membership contract.
Note
Coverage may be provided under a certificate of self-insurance, insurance policy, or both. Members who joined Zipcar on a plan affiliated with a business, university, or other entity may have different insurance coverage.
View ArticleInsurance is included with Zipcar bookings, but if you happen to be involved in an incident with your Zipcar, a damage fee of up to $1,000 may apply. A damage fee can apply to dents, scratches, collisions, flat tires, windshield cracks, dead batteries, engine problems, vandalism, theft, third-party damages and, in some cases, third-party personal injuries.
Members are not responsible for normal wear-and-tear on the vehicle. However, the fee does apply to damage caused by unavoidable events such as floods, hail, wind, trees falling, etc.
Before each reservation, we ask you to check the car inside and out and report any damage. This ensures that you will not be held responsible for damage that may have happened before your reservation.
Damage protection plans can be purchased to reduce or eliminate your damage fee responsibility in some circumstances.

Purchasing damage protection won't change your insurance coverageit just changes the maximum amount you'll be charged if you're involved in an incident with your Zipcar.

View ArticleOnly active members are allowed to drive Zipcars. Other members can drive a Zipcar that you reserve, but they will not be able to unlock the car with their card unless you are on the same account. If a member on a different account is driving a Zipcar that you reserve, we ask that you be along for the ride.
All fees and charges, and the application of any damage fee waivers, will be the responsibility of the reserving member.
Note
Non-members are generally not covered by our insurance. If you allow a non-member to drive during your reservation, you may be responsible for all damage and will be responsible for all costs incurred while they're driving. Allowing non-members to drive Zipcar can result in the loss of membership.

Credit will automatically apply when a reservation bills. Any leftover credit will remain on the account.
If there are multiple drivers on an account, the credit will apply to all drivers.
All credits are in the currency of the member's primary driving country, and cannot be applied to reservations in places with a different currency.
Credit cannot be transferred to another person or account.
Unless otherwise stated, driving credit expires 2 months after it is issued.
Driving credit expires immediately when your account closes. A refund cannot be issued for unused driving credit.
Most driving credit is tax-canceling, meaning it is applied to the cost of your reservation before taxes are calculated.
To check when your driving credit expires, sign into our website and go to the Billing page. Under your driving credit callout, click View details. Your driving credit summary and expiration dates will be listed there.

Once you have verified the 6 digit code, an email will be sent to the new email address with a new 6 digit code that will expire in 10 minutes. Upon verification, the email address on file will updated. The previous email address will be notified of the change.

To avoid additional fees when cancelling or shortening a booking, be sure to modify your booking within the following timeframes:
Within 30 minutes after creating a booking

For reservations that are 8 hours or longer: At least 24 hours in advance

View ArticleExtra Value Plans or EVP are rate plans for Zipcar members who drive often and want lower driving rates. These plans are billed monthly and include discounts and driving credit that will be applied to your reservations.
Each EVP plan includes an amount of driving credit per month equal to the cost of the plan, as well as discounted driving rates:
EVP 50: $50 of driving credit per month and 10% off of hourly and daily rates. Credits last one month.
EVP 75: $75 of driving credit per month and 10% off of hourly and daily rates. Credits last two months.
EVP 125: $125 of driving credit per month and 10% off of hourly and daily rates. Credits last three months.
EVP 250: $250 of driving credit per month and 15% off of hourly and daily rates. Credits last three months.
EVP Driving Credit
Unlike other driving credit, EVP driving credit is not tax-cancelling. This means that you will still pay the post-tax cost of the reservation using your driving credits.
Your EVP driving credit must be used by its expiration date and cannot be extended. To check when your driving credit expires, sign into our website and go to the Billing page. Under your driving credit callout, click View details. Your driving credit summary and expiration dates will be listed there.
Signing Up for EVP
EVP plans are only available to current Zipcar members. If you're already a member, you can find more information on available Zipcar plans in your area or switch to an EVP plan. How do I see all cars in my search results?To see all cars near you regardless of availability, click Search using roughly the dates and times youre interested in. Once the search results panel loads, select My time is flexiblein the filter box at the top of the search results, and click Update search. Youll now see all cars near you regardless of whether they may be reserved during your preferred search time.
How do I sort by price? We're currently unable to sort by price; however, more advanced sorting and filtering features are coming soon, including the ability to sort by price and filter by car features. At the moment, search results are automatically filtered by closest location to your search address. You can also filter by car type and model.
How can I get a receipt for a specific trip? Navigate to your Billing page or click here. For each item on this page, you can click the download icon Billing page to save a PDF of the expanded transaction details to your computer.
How can I access my monthly billing statements?For accounts that pay for activity with each reservation, a monthly view of all billing transactions is coming soon.In the meantime, you can view all your historical activity for the last 12 months by clicking View moreat the bottom of the page to load older billing items.

On the member website, click on Billing in the top navigation bar to access the Billing page.
Here are a few tips when viewing the Billing page:
Line items are grouped by trip or recurring charge (i.e. membership or waiver fees).
Clicking on a line item will allow you to view a detailed breakdown of all transactions associated with that item.
Items are listed by most recent activity first, going back 12 months.
Your total credit balance is shown in the Your credits callout at the top right of the page. If you have any credits, you can click the View detailslink to see a breakdown of all the active credits on your account.
Please note: So long as you have credits, they are automatically applied to your trips. To see how much driving credit was applied to a recent trip, expand the trip item to view the transaction details. Any credits that were applied will be listed here.

Accounts on monthly payment cycles: Accessing your invoice
If you make your Zipcar payments on a monthly basis, there are a few differences in how you access your billing information on the new Billing page.
Here are a few tips when reviewing your Zipcar billing activity:

As we are in the process of moving between billing systems, your invoice for activity on the old billing system may need to be accessed separately.
From the Billing page, click the additional link under Your credits called View invoice summary here. The information provided in the pop-up window includes all your activity on the new billing system.
Click on a past invoice to download billing activity associated with that invoice.
To access your activity on the old system, click on the link at the bottom of the pop-up window: Activity on old billing system can be viewed here. From there, you will be able to download and review your activity from the old system.
For the time being, you may continue to incur charges on the old system, specifically recurring charges like membership fees and waiver fees. This means that you may see two different balances and payments due for a given month.

Applicants must be 21 years or older to be eligible for membership; 18 years or older if applying with a college or university partnered with Zipcar.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license. Learner's permits will not be accepted.
Applicants will be required to accept the terms and conditions of the member application and member agreement.
Applicants that possess a non-US based license need to submit a color copy of their drivers license and passport. Applicants that possess a British Columbia based license need to submit a color copy of their driver's license, a driver's abstract and claims history. Applicants in Michigan under the age of 21 must have no major violations (see below), "incidents", or alcohol or drug related violations.

Most Zipcars will include a toll pass. To find a Zipcar with a toll pass you can check the vehicle amenity icons when selecting which Zipcar to drive. While it does not cost anything to use the toll pass, you will still be responsiblefor the tolls charges.
Toll Charges
All toll charges will be added to your account after the reservation ends. It may take a few days for Zipcar to learn of the tollsfrom the municipality so we add tolls on your account as a pending charge. All tolls will settle on your monthly settlement date which you can find by clicking here to go to my stuff>my account. Your settlement date can be found under my membership and will be the same day of the month as you membership feerenewal.
Personal Tolls
If your Zipcar comes with a toll pass, don't use your own personal pass instead as this could result in double-charging. If you're in one of our cities that does not offer toll passes, you may use your own as long as you follow the rules and regulations set up by the toll authority.
View ArticleWhile we are eager to get your membership started, there are a couple things that need to happen before you can begin booking Zipcars.
First, we'll needto review your driving record which typically takes a day, but in some cases it may take a little longer. Once you're approved (or if we need further information) we'll reach out to you via email.
Second, you'll also need to activate your Zipcard before you can reserve and drive. We'll mail you one shortly after you're approved. It takes up to 5-7 business days for the Zipcard to arrive USPS First Class mail.
You can always check the status of your application by logginginto your account here.
Note
If you are joining through a business, university,or affiliate the application process may take a little longer since you will also have to be approved by an administrator.

View ArticleIf you're unable to find your reserved vehicle at the beginning of our reservation, please follow these steps:
Make sure that you have the correct date, time, and location, using the mobile app.
Make sure that your reservation time has actually started; if not another member could be on the way back with your vehicle.
Use the mobile app to honk the horn on the vehicle in case it has been parked slightly out of location.
Call us at 866-4ZIPCAR. We can direct you if the vehicle is at a nearby alternate location. If the vehicle is not nearby we can move you to another vehicle.
View ArticleYou need to return your Zipcar to its home location at the end of your reservation. If you're dropping off at a location that has more than one reserved Zipcar space, any of them will do.

If the Zipcar space is unavailable
If your Zipcar spot it taken or blocked, please find the nearest available and legal space where the vehicle will not be towed. Then give us a call at 866-4ZIPCAR to let us know so we can help the next member who has the vehicle reserved.
Regional Parking Information
Denver
What to look for: If your Zipcar lives at a City of Denver on-street (curbside) Zipcar spot and the spot has been taken by another vehicle when you arrive, you may park in a legal parking space on the same block. Be sure to call the call 866-4ZIPCAR to let us know where exactly you parked it.
Houston
What to look for: If your Zipcar lives at a City of Houston on-street (curbside) parking spot, you'll notice that the signage is not branded with Zipcar. The sign will indicate "Carshare Parking Only". Remember that your Zipcar lives in this spot only. Please do not park it in other Carshare spots.
How it's Different: These Zipcar locations are unique as the parking is not branded with Zipcar signage.
San Diego
What to look for: Several on-street spaces provided by the city have signs which say "Permitted Car Share Vehicles Only" or "No Parking (Reserved Car Share)."

Washington, D.C./Alexandria, VA
What to look for:When driving a Zipcar in DC, you can park at any legal curbside space. You still need to return your Zipcar back to the home location at the end of the reservation. Here are the spots you can legally park a Zipcar during your reservation at no cost:
Curbside spaces with a parking meter
Curbside spaces without a parking meter
Curbside spaces that require a Residential Parking Permit (RPP) in all eight wards of the city
How it's Different: These Zipcar locations are unique as the parking is not branded with Zipcar signage.
Vancouver
What to look for: When driving a Zipcar in Vancouver, you can park at any curbside space with a parking meter/ kiosk operated by the City of Vancouver for up to two hours at no additional cost. You still need to return your Zipcar back to the home location at the end of the reservation. Here are the spots you can legally park a Zipcar during your reservation at no cost:
Curbside spaces with a parking meter or parking kiosk operated by The City of Vancouver
Curbside spaces without a parking meter
"Resident only" and "No parking except with permit" areas

View ArticlePets are not allowed in Zipcars unless they are in locked pet carriers. Members are subject to fees if evidence of pet hair is found in the vehicle they have reserved.
We do waive the requirement for pets in carriers for members with service animals. Members with service animals need to inform us if we will need to clean any pet hair from the vehicle in order to prepare it for the next member.
View ArticleIf you're affiliated with one of the 600+ universities that have partnered with Zipcar, you can sign up through your university for a discounted rate and join Zipcar if you are 18 years or older.

Students: You can apply through your university online by clicking here. Once there, search for your university and you will be brought to your school-specific page. Apply for membership by clicking Join student plan and following the directions to complete an application.

You will be prompted to search for your university and once confirmed it will provide you with the various account options. Be sure to select to select the appropriate account to prevent delays in your application.
Some university accounts require approval from an administrator in order for you to sign up for Zipcar under their account. If so, check with your university account administrator after signing up to make sure your Zipcar application is approved.

View ArticleThere's never a limit on how far you can drive your Zipcar, but there is a limit on how many of those miles are covered for free.
Zipcars in the United States
Every reservation comes with a free 180 miles and reservations longer than 24 hours get even more:
180 free miles for each 24-hour period
20 free miles for each additional hour of your reservation until you reach 180 miles
All additional mileage will be billed at $0.45/mile when your reservation ends (up to $0.55/mile for premium vehicles and cargo vans).
Note
Pay per-mile cars and some rate plans do not receive free miles.
Zipcars inCanada
Every reservation comes with a free 200 kilometers and reservations longer than 24 hours get even more:
200 free kilometers for each 24-hour period
15 free kilometers for each additional hour of your reservation until you reach 200 kilometers
All additional mileage will be billed at $0.30/kilometer when your reservation ends (up to $0.45 for premium vehicles and cargo vans).
Note
Pay per mile cars and some special rate plans do not receive free kilometers.

The business name and address on your certificate must match the information on your application. If it all checks out, we'll confirm approval within two to five business days of receiving your email.

View ArticlePreferred addresses can be added to your account to make it easier to search for Zipcars near a location most convenient to you.
To set up a preferred address, login to Zipcar and selectmy account > where I zip.Here you will be able to edit your preferred address or set another address associated with your account to be preferred.
When booking a Zipcar, your preferred address will be used as the default search address.
View ArticleBefore you start driving, you must inspect your Zipcar inside and out and report any problems. This will help ensure our vehicles get the care they need and you are not held responsible for any issues.
What to Report
We ask that you report any problem with the vehicle, including:
Vehicle damage, including scratches or dents larger than a credit card
Fuel left below tank
Dirty vehicles, including litter, smoke, pet hair, or anything else that might affect another members experience
Warning lights, flat tires, and other maintenance issues
How to Report
Please report any issues through the Zipcar iPhone or Android app by clicking Reporton the Drivescreen. You will be prompted to submit photos and a brief description of the problem.

View ArticleA member with a suspended account will not be able to make a booking, change an existing booking, or unlock a Zipcar, but will still have access to all billing information on their account.
Some reasons an account may be suspended:
Account has been compromised
Account involved in an accident in a Zipcar
Account involved in a missing or unreturned Zipcar
Balance due on an account for more than three weeks
Non-member driving on a booking under the account
Violations of Zipcar rules around late returns or car cleanliness
Violations of the member contract
If your account is suspended you can make a request to have it unsuspended. Any decision made at that point will be final and ineligible for further review.
