How employees describe working at Johnson Controls
Great vision and sustainability goals however the company is very fragmented and different business units don't seem to operate seamlessly or collaboratively. Too big at times to be more efficient/effective.
They like to micromanage, show favorites and target employees they dont like
Communication with clients and transparency of services. Someone really needs to take a look at what is going on with the South Carolina office and Wester North Carolina Team. There are a lot of disgruntled employees and the management team has proven very rude.
A chance to grow if you work hard.
It's about the same as working for any other large corporation, You're a small cog in a large machine. JCI is a VERY old fashioned company with some outdated values and convoluted ways of doing things. They definitely make their work flows way more complicated than it needs to be.

How's the morale at Johnson Controls?
Very bad at the moment, particularly in IT
IT outsourcing, mass lay-offs. Really poor IT leadership with little to no respect for employees. Avoid.

What's the Operations team like at Johnson Controls?
Operations team spends most of their time in meetings that show no result. They point fingers as to the cause of incidents and never take the blame for anything. They require you to work on weekends and are unavailable when needed.
They'll violate specs to hit shipments.

decent as long as you're not in a plant.

Lately, with the fivestitures and then the integration activities the balance is very much tipped towards work rather than life.

For Sales - how extremely dependent your market and account list is on success. There is an enormous gap between the success of the smaller and bigger market sales teams. Account lists determines absolutely everything. There are some extremely high earners in the sales team here, but without a good account list you're going to struggle no matter your ambition or talent level. This combined with everyone being judged on the same metrics creates high turnover in markets incapable of supporting multiple high performers, or with entrenched established account execs soaking up the major accounts.

Very hostile. We have one coworker in particular that makes you walk on eggshells during the workday. She will call HR on you if you look at her the wrong way. It makes work miserable and management can't do anything about her.
It varies quite a bit by division, from what I hear. I am part of the Adient spin-off from JCI, which has a pretty typical automotive supplier culture. Work hard when there's a lot of work to do to meet a deadline, and then hang out for a few months until the next deadline is looming. Also finance is king, though they want to pretend that it's an enginnering / innovation centered culture.
There Is not much communication from management. Its not always a bad thing but sometimes it leaves employees in the dark about processes or direction.

Locally we have a strong team, and achieve good results, but lack real engagement to develop for the future.
Group leaders are rude! A lot of them don't care about quality just quantity!
It's not the workers it's how management deals with them or doesn't deal with them!
