My overall experience has been eye opening. In my 30 years in mortgage banking I have never worked for a company that does what it says it's going to do. As a CRA loan officer now underwriter this is the first company I have worked at that delivers for communities in need. I am proud to work here

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
I love the inclusivity. First Merchants works hard to let their employees know they are not only valued, but cared for. It's more than just a job in our culture.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Our underwriting team is very supportive of each other. It is impossible to know everything, but it is possible to rely on each others strengths to do the right thing for the client, the bank and the department.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
My manager, LaTonya Barton is straight forward. Fearless in her pursuit of excellence and focus on what's best of our clients, company, team and the individual. I'd like to think that style comes from the top down. Communication is excellent and very clear.
What makes you most happy at work?
Interacting with my coworkers. The mortgage programs we have available to help underserved communities bridge the wealth gap are truly the best part of working here. I love when we can do something positive for our communities that no other bank can do. It is a work of the heart.
