FMB is a place where you are encouraged to grow and are shown that hard work pays off. That being said it seems like this year we've taken a step back and are getting in our own way: fewer open positions meaning less advancement opportunities. Pay is enough to attract talent, but not to retain it.
What is the best part about your compensation package?
For the work and employee type that I am: First Merchants offers some of the best pay in the area.
What are some of the best things about your team?
My direct team are fantastic and I love getting to work with them! Even the other teams in my department are great to work with and to learn from or to teach them something new. In short: I think we hire good people :)
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
Being a member of the community: First Merchants is perceived as just a small local bank, which can be good in some ways, but that image could hold us back. I personally feel that we aren't growing as fast as we should be, and if you aren't growing, you're dying .
What do you like best about the leadership team?
My leadership team is invested in me as an individual and take the time to talk and check in with me. I'd like to think with my direct report and his direct report we are all very open in our conversations and tend not to mince words. I could not speak for executive leadership.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
At least within my area: we are actively encouraged to be ourselves and we see that others in our area do so, so it feels a lot more genuine than the generic statements most companies give about "being yourself at work". Here (at least in my area) you are genuinely encouraged to and shown you can :)
