I like getting my work product out the door to its end users.
After working for many years as a contractor/freelancer, I like having a job with medical/dental/vision benefits. The coverage is not gold-plated, but is definitely generous.
Since teams at VFI tend to be geographically distributed, I was able to do the initial interviews remotely, which was really nice. That should really be the norm for initial interviews, in my opinion.
The people are nice and eager to help. Our area of expertise is extremely specialized, so new employees are given a generous amount of grace time to learn the field and get comfortable with the work.
My manager is excellent. He's nice, gives constructive feedback even about major problems in a tactful and helpful way, and manages to juggle a team consisting of business analysts, technical writers, and project owner/managers with ease, which is no joke.
One of the members of my team is a leading expert in our field who wrote some of the standards used in the industry. One of my other team members has been with the company for 23 years and has a lot of technical and institutional knowledge. People are very helpful and eager to connect.
