Executive Bio

Nate Gatten is American’s Chief Government Affairs Officer. He leads the airline’s Airport Affairs, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security, Sustainability, and Government and Regulatory Affairs teams. As a member of the airline’s senior leadership team, he works closely with his colleagues to define the company’s strategic priorities and direct the development and execution of the efforts to advance American’s interests worldwide.

Nate joined American in 2017 as Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs and has been in his current role since 2022. Previously, Nate was Managing Director and Head of Global Government Relations at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he led the government relations and policy teams globally, and served as the organization’s primary representative before Congress, the White House, and international policy-making bodies.

From 2019 to 2021, Nate represented the United States as a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council (ABAC). He currently serves on the board of the Faith and Politics Institute, Dallas Regional Chamber and U.S. Travel Association.

Nate holds a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and a Master of Business Administration from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. He and his wife Annette are the parents of four children.
