Force retire the old guards or assign them to less critical organization. They have been a part of the old culture of favoritism, biases and manipulation of the system. It's ok if they are high school graduates However, the attitude to do the right thing and the critical thinking factor seems to be missing. It's like you have been trained wrong in the first place and grew up with that value that it's already hard to correct with good education and training. The problem is that these are people who are given the responsibilty of handling skilled and personnel with higher education. It's like a disease, a director or an area manager with a power trip can easily corrupt or de motivate a group of engineers or technicians. It also a reason to doubt the higher management that they confine these kinds of bad behaviors.
Educate and train the workforce well with what they need to deliver a good job to the customer. There is no better reward than a personal satisfaction that you can deliver and resolve issues without a doubt. Also, give people a chance to move within the organization. However, it doesn't make sense to place a finance major in an area where an electronics knowledge is required.
AT&T used to be “the place” to work around here. Now, all the good-paying jobs have been sub-contracted or shipped overseas. When this company was staffed by freinds and family members, the employees had a real feeling of ownership and committment. Now, employees are numbers and treated as a liability to be eliminated.
Get rid of all contractors and replace them with actual AT&T employees. Get rid of employees with over 35 years of services. Get rid of managers who manage up rather than coach and prepare their employees for the next level.
I would change the way management treats call center employees as if they were the bottom of the barrel. Without the call center employees handling calls from thousands of customers in a satisfactory manner, there would be no AT&T.
First off, fix the work life balance. Working for AT&T is very hard if you have a family.
Keep jobs in usa so people who call can understand and wont have bad information sent to techs
More women at the top. It's a white man's world in most of AT&T - particularly wireless
I know they say it’s about the customer, but it really needs to be about the customer.
