An area manager once told me "you have to be a team player if you value your career. I have been in the game for too long and I know how to play the game. " The sad part is this is done for all the wrong reasons and no one is auditing this kind of a person or probably the next level of management doesn't really care about it. The good part is this only represents a very small percentage of the managers in AT&T which are very professional and has a sense of good character. So if you fall into one of those cracks in the organization where gimmicks, politics and farce appreciation is the name of the game, good luck. For the most part, AT&T has a very strong, intelligent pool of ethical and educated people from all races and ethnicity that you will be proud to work with.

Two things get you promoted. A degree and something you did that made AT&T a lot of money. Oh... and being a company yes man (person).

If you are not in Dallas or El Segundo, it will be hard. Some people relocate to get the promotion.

On the wire side, you only get promoted if you are friends with the next level manager.
