When I was in store I noticed what appeared to be bullying by a big boss to other employees. I did not jump in because it was not my space to jump in. It was very in appropriate and made me want to cancel my membership. I believe the person being rude was named Kat or something like that.

How's the morale at Books A Million?
Thriving!
Great. The BAM FAM is big.
Usually low because of company.Only high points are due to a good relationship between employees and store manager of store.And that does not happen in over 60% of them.
How does Books A Million make decisions around promotions?
By addressing each individuals strengths and determining how those strengths could best suite a particular role.
These decisions are made by senior management per the recommendation of management. We do a competencies review which helps you identify those items you have to work on to get to the next level.
How do you feel about Books A Million's future?
Very strong! We have been around 100 years and will be around for another 100!
I feel confident they will be around. The leadership is strong, motivated and ensures we are diversified in more than just retail.
What's the office layout like at Books A Million?
Two buildings. Cubes, offices, etc.
We have two corporate office buildings with managers on the outer side in offices and the rest of the staff in cubicles.

A great deal of effort has taken place to include diversity as a natural part of the BAM culture.
There is a lot of diversity and employees are embrace the differences of one another.
How challenged are you at Books A Million?
Daily!
I happen to be in a very specialized job that I have done for a very long job; yet I am still challenged since you are always short 1 person.
What are the team outings like at Books A Million?
They take place seasonally. Bowling, baseball games, food trucks, etc.
It is a variety of charity activities and they bring a food truck, we participate at community events such as PRIDE and annually we District Manager week that is away from the office.

How's the vacation policy at Books A Million?
Two weeks.
2 weeks for a year. If you are hired mid-year 1 week. That is for corporate employees.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at Books A Million?
Very enjoyable. I was able to learn about the role I would play from many different perspectives.

Very relaxed. More of a conversation than a drilling.
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from Books A Million?
I heard back within the same week and spoke with three department heads and the CEO.
I met the VP of HR, the Director of HR and the CFO. All in all I was hired within 2 weeks.
How flexible is your work schedule at Books A Million?
Very!
I typically work from 8:30 to 5:30 PM; however, whenever I have a dr's appointment or need to leave early this is not a problem at all.
What's the work from home policy like at Books A Million?
Flexible to each person's situation.
If you work in a store you obviously cannot work from home; however, if you work at corporate you can take your laptop home and it is setup in such a way that you can work securely from home and access all your applications and files.
Does Books A Million drug test or do a background check?
Yes.
Books A Million does a background check and for certain positions a drug test.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at Books A Million?
There was not one.
How's the leadership on the Operations team at Books A Million?
overly micro managed causing harder to do job and does not care to hear what you have to say even if its about improvements to better the store
