Frequently Asked Questions About DataCamp

  • Question:

Your course page dataset list is incomplete! Where can I download the missing datasets? I need access to the code used behind the scenes so I can replicate this in my own environment.

    Answer:

To recap, the following Help Article includes information for locating datasets in courses: ' Where can I download the codes used in the course ?'.

You may have noticed that we sometimes load code into the exercises for you in order to get you started. This is known as pre-exercise code. We do this to help you focus on a specific topic covered in the chapter, rather than having to build the code from scratch yourself.

While we understand the value of obtaining this code to test in your own environment, this is not something that is available in DataCamp today, as we tend to cover very specific topics.

For our more advanced learners, we recommend exploring DataCamp Projects to build out your own code and eventually, your own portfolio.

We will be sure to take this into consideration as we continue to develop more courses and improve the product.

  • Problem:

Is it possible to merge two Organizations together? Two different administrators created DataCamp for Business Organizations. The problem is that now they are completely separate. I'd like to combine them or have them under the same umbrella organization.

    Answer:

While there isn't a built-in mechanism to merge Organizations together, there is a solution:To resolve this issue, the same person must be an administrator in both Organizations. If you would not like to occupy an additional license with that administrator account, you can grant the account dashboard-only admin access. More information on that role type can be found HERE.

If your goal is to have distinctions within the same Organization, check out the Teams functionality within your DataCamp Organization.

  • Question:

I subscribed to DataCamp at a discounted rate. When my account is set to auto-renew, will you honor the discounted rate, or will I be charged full price?

    Answer:

The answer to this question varies. Some discounts will continue to be applied upon auto-renewal. Others will revert to the regular price after the second year of service.

If you signed up with one of DataCamp's legacy discounted rates, DataCamp will honor that rate upon auto-renewal.

However, if you cancel your subscription at any time and choose to re-subscribe at a later date, the same discounted rate will not roll over into your new subscription.

Before subscribing, DataCamp will present information on the screen with information on your auto-renewal policy and rates. Additionally, if you are a yearly subscriber, you will receive an email reminder of your renewal rate before auto-renewal.

You can find out at any time by logging into your account and:

    Hovering over your profile picture

    Clicking on your name

    ClickingSubscriptions

If your subscription is set to auto-renew at the same discounted rate, you will see a message that says, "Yearly with recurring discount". If your promotional offer is not eligible for a recurring discount, you will not see this message.

  • Problem:

Is it possible to get it renew or pay for my subscription before my subscription renewal date?

    Answer:

Subscriptions are set to automatically renew either the following month or year on the registration date (depending on your subscription plan ).

There is not an option to renew or pay for your subscription ahead of time. Your subscription will be renewed on the date located in yourAccount Settings > Subscriptionspage.

    Examples of Subscription Plan Renewals:

If you registered for a Monthly Subscription on 01/25/2019, your subscription is set to auto-renew on 02/25/2019,unless you pause or cancel your subscription prior to renewal date.

If you registered for a Yearly Subscription on 01/25/2019, your subscription is set to auto-renew on 01/25/2020, unless you cancel your subscription prior to renewal date.

  • Problem:

I'm trying to pay for my DataCamp subscription, but my payment keeps getting automatically canceled.

    Background:

If your DataCamp subscription payment was declined, it was most likely a result of your card provider's or bank's automated precautionary measures. Other causes include:

    Payment Specific Causes:

You already have an active yearly subscription

If you already have an active yearlysubscription, you will not be able to sign up at a different rate with the same account until that subscription expires.

Exceeding payment limits on your card

    Insufficient funds, etc.

Your bank does not accept charges in U.S. Dollars

Your bank does not accept charges overseas

    Other Causes:

    Incorrectly entered information

Network or connection issues at the time of the payment

    Solution:

As a first step, you should check if any of the causes listed above is affecting you.

If not, we recommend reaching out to your card provider or bank to allow online purchases, as well as international purchases. If they are able to confirm that there shouldn't be a problem, but the issue persists, please reach out to the DataCamp Support team by submitting a request at the top of this page.

If your bank does not typically accept charges in US dollars, that could also be a cause of the problem. More information can be found HERE.

Alternatively, you may use another payment option. Once the payment issue has been rectified, or the payment option has been changed, the system will automatically attempt a charge.

  • Question:

What are the differences between paying for an individual account vs. buying Business Licenses?

    Answer:

Individual Subscription:This gives users access to all Premium content for their own personal learning needs.

Individual Licenses are for User's who are working solely on the platform, at their own pace. Users should purchase this if they'd like to access more than just the Free content on DataCamp and for those who wishto achieve a certificateof accomplishment for the Courses & for Skills/Career Tracks provided by DataCamp.

Enterprise for Businesses: Purchasing Business Licenses means you're also creating an Organization within DataCamp which you can add members to. The creator of an Organization is the Administrator and has access to tools like reporting and assignments.

The Administrator purchases Licenses for their staff and adds them to the organization. There are many reasons for companies to enroll their staff in DataCamp for Business. For example, learning about a specific data science topic, track engagement in DataCamp, track progress over time etc.

More information on DataCamp for business can be found here: https://www.datacamp.com/groups/business.

  • Question:

I didn't know I still had an active subscription, and it automatically renewed. Can I please get a refund?

    Answer:

DataCamp is a subscription service. By signing up you agree to our Terms of Use and your account will automatically renew at either a monthly or yearly interval, unless you cancel or stop auto-billing.

You may cancel your subscription at any time. However, we do not refund or prorate unused portions of a subscription. This means that if you cancel your subscription, it will no longer auto-renew, but you will retain access until the end of your subscription, and the subscription amount will not be automatically awarded.

More information can be found in our Terms of Use. Monthly subscribers can also find information on the renewal policy in the initial email sent by DataCamp. Yearly subscribers will receive a reminder before being billed.

While a refund cannot be granted for the situation posed in the question at the beginning of this article, we try to be as understanding as possible, so there are exceptions. We investigate each case individually for confirmation, but here are examples where a refundwouldbe granted:

You were accidentally charged twice in the same month

You accidentally set up payment for two of your own DataCamp accounts

If you believe you have a valid case for a refund, please contact the DataCamp Help Desk by submitting a ticket from the Help Center or emailing [email protected] directly. We'd be happy to help.

Can I change my Academic group's start date? As the professor, I need access before the start date in order to audit the content.

    Answer:

The group's start date cannot be changed. If you need access before your class's start date, be sure to reflect that as the start date during the sign-up process.

As a workaround, you can re-submit the application for a new group with an earlier start date. We will review your application within 3-4 business days.

  • What is XP?

XP is a way of gauging how well you are doing or how engaged you are in DataCamp. It is calculated automatically based on courses, exercises or other actions you complete in DataCamp. Your total or cumulative XP will appear in the top right-hand corner of your screen and on your profile page. Whenever you choose the option to take a Hint or Show Solution, XP will be deducted from your potential additionally awarded XP.

Do I need XP to use DataCamp?

The short answer is, "No". It is totally optional. While it cannot be disabled, you can certainly use DataCamp without ever worrying about your XP. However, it is a great way to stay motivated and continue on your Data Science journey.

  • At DataCamp, we strive to provide our students with the best support possible. To help us help you, there are a few things you can do to ensure your issue gets solved in the fastest, most efficient way possible. Here is the information we need to be able to support you as best as we can.

A link to the exercise where you're encountering the issue

There are more than 7000 exercises on DataCamp, and our directory of courses is ever growing, so it's difficult recognizing an exercise with just snippet. A link to the exercise in DataCamp will help us jump right into the issue at hand.

A paste of the code you entered in the exercise

This helps us recognize whether the issue is in the code itself, or in the DataCamp exercise. Sending us formatted code helps with readability:

On a Mac computer, simply paste with Cmd + Alt + Shift + V

On Windows computer, follow these instructions.

    instructions

A screenshot of the exercise page

This screenshot should show the whole exercise page. It's important that we can see:

    the code

    the output

    the hints

    To take a screenshot:

on a Mac, press Cmd + Shift + 3 to take a screenshot of the whole page, or Cmd + Shift + 4 to be able to select a part of the screen

on Windows, press Windows + PrtScn to take a screenshot of the whole screen

A screenshot of the Console tab

This is not always required, but in the case the Run Code or Submit Answer buttons show a wheel that seems to never be ending, we will probably need it (however, check if you don't have an infinite loop first, as they can trigger this behavior).

To access the Console tab, depending on your browser, follow these .

The Console tab should look something like this:

Sending us this material will go a long way to help us solve your issues!

If you are enrolled in a Career or Skill Track, DataCamp will display how many courses you have started or completed for that Track.

For example, there are 0 courses in progress for the Python Programmer track in the screenshot below. Courses are marked as "In Progress" only when you have completed exercises in that course.2.Courses in Progress (General):

The screenshot below displays course progress for all courses you have interacted with in DataCamp. If you have watched a video in a course, or completed one of its exercises, that course will appear in this section. From here, you can continue to the course at any point.

  • What is the DataCamp Slack Community?

The DataCamp Slack community is a place where both established, and up-and-coming Data Scientists interact to talk about the space, the technologies available, best practices, methodologies...everything and anything data science!

How can I access the Slack Community?

The DataCamp Slack community is only available for DataCamp users with active individual user or Enterprise subscriptions. You can access the community by clicking on the Slack icon directly in DataCamp or in the DataCamp Help Center.

    https://status.datacamp.com/

What are some topics I can talk about in the Slack Community?

You can talk about pretty much anything data science related. Channels range from python, sql, jobs, course questions etc. However, there are guidelines:

Be respectful. Please respect your fellow community. Debating and sharing differing opinions and viewpoints is encouraged, but only when it is done in a polite and respectful manner. Insulting, condescending, abusive, or generally mean-spirited messages will not be tolerated and will be reported and removed.

Post appropriately. You may not post inappropriate or copyrighted content, advertise or promote outside products or organizations, or spam the group with repeat messages.

Be constructive. Our community is about learning with and through engagement with one another. When commenting on each others messages, try to offer constructive feedback and suggestions.

What topics are better suited for another channel?

The short answer is, "anything Support related". While we have a team of moderators reviewing posts and comments, Slack is not an ideal channel for troubleshooting and investigating issues.

In Slack, we would not have access to your email address, your account etc. Additionally, an open community is not a place where we would encourage sharing personal information. We want to make sure that your issue is addressed and escalated properly in our ticketing system.

If you think you have encountered a technical error, or have general course or product feedback, you should reach out to the Support Help Desk directly.

As a reminder, you should always check our status page for updates:.

    What are some best practices?

Use threads when appropriate. When responding to an older message, respond in a thread so that it is easier to follow the conversation (and doesnt disrupt other conversations).

Tag someone if you are speaking to them using @.

Format your code properly. When sharing code, use single backticks (`) for short code snippets, and triple backticks (```) for multi-line code snippets.

    Post in the appropriate channel.

Do not double post. Only ask a question once, in the relevant channel.

Only pin important resources. Do not pin unanswered questions.

When referencing DataCamp courses, include the link to the course in your message.

Who is responsible for moderating the Slack Community?

Everyone! DataCamp Slack channels are a place for the data science community to work with and support each other. You are in control of the conversations. The community can only be as helpful as you make it out to be.

We also have a team of dedicated DataCamp Community Championswhich will mainly observe, and jump in when necessary.

Does DataCamp offer support for questions about my code via Slack?

DataCamp does not officially offer support for questions related to the correctness of your code, but you can certainly ask for help in the appropriate channel. For example, if you are using Python and have a question about your code, you can navigate to #python and share it there. See the best practices section above for reference.

Our team of volunteer DataCamp Community Champions will occasionally jump in and help, but the goal is for your fellow DataCamp learners to assist when they can. Hopefully you can return the favor to another DataCamper in need!

  • Problem:

I chose a monthly subscription when signing up for DataCamp. However, I noticed that I was actually charged for a yearly subscription in full. I can't afford to pay for an entire year of service right now. I only wanted to be charged for one month at a time. What is going on and how can I get my money back?

    Background:

DataCamp has both monthly and yearly subscription options. Assuming you end up using DataCamp for an entire year, the month-to-month breakdown of a yearly subscription is more cost-effective than a monthly subscription. The main difference is that with the yearly subscription, you are charged for the entire year of service all at once ($/month * 12 months).

Financially, this is the best option over time, but if you do not anticipate a 12-month fee all at once, you should not choose the yearly option, and go with the monthly option, instead. More information on our pricing options can be found here: https://www.datacamp.com/pricing.

    Solution:

Before signing up for a subscription, it is important to closely review all options. If you would like to sign up for a monthly subscription, be sure to leave thePay Yearlyoption unchecked. See screenshot below for reference.

If you happen to accidentally click on the option, or if you feel you were incorrectly signed up for the yearly subscription, please contact the DataCamp Help Desk immediately by clicking on the Submit a Request option at the top of this page or emailing [email protected]. We'd be happy to help you out and correct the error.

  • Question:

I can't log in. How do I get a new password?

    Answer:

Note: If you signed up using your LinkedIn, Facebook or Google login credentials, you will have to go directly to the source to reset your password. DataCamp does not store password information from LinkedIn, Facebook or Google.

If your organization uses SSO, you must log in using your organization's sign-on URL (not datacamp.com) and your organization's login credentials. These troubleshooting steps are not applicable in this situation. If you forgot your login credentials, you must reach out directly to your DataCamp administrator for help resetting or sharing login information

If you do not use any of the above single-sign-on methods and forgot your password, click on theSign in option on datacamp.com and click on the Forgot Passwordlink.

Enter the email address you used to sign up for a DataCamp account and click on theReset my password option.

If you do not receive the email, check the Spam folder in your inbox or your network settings for blocks against datacamp.com.

As a final step, please do not hesitate to contact us directly if the problem persists. We'd be happy to help.

  • Problem:

I do not have a credit card but I do have a debit card, how do I pay for the subscription?

    Solution:

At the moment, we only accept payment via credit card or PayPal at the time of purchase for individual users.

However, certain Visa/Master debit cards are still accepted because Visa/Master debit cards rely on their credit card network to process online, phone, and international transactions. Debit cards alone cannot support the online purchase, which generates a declined transaction.

The debit card's compatibility will depend on the bank's networks, so you might need to contact your bank to understand why your Visa debit card is declined.
