Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility at DXC Technology

Our global environmental sustainability targets are based on a 3-year program. We are committed to absolute reduction targets that align with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the climate agreements.

Here are our most important goals for the next 3 years, using DXC’s fiscal 2019 as a baseline:
--Greenhouse gas emissions: Absolute reduction of 20 percent in all our data centers and offices worldwide
--Energy consumption: Absolute reduction of 12 percent in all our data centers and offices worldwide
--Renewable energy: 30 percent of purchased or generated electricity will be from renewable sources
--Water: Absolute reduction of 15 percent worldwide
--E-waste: Reduction to zero e-waste to landfill via promotion of reuse
--Other waste: Absolute reduction of 15 percent generated globally (in metric tons)

DXC’s environmental targets form part of our structured management system designed to identify key environmental impacts, and measure and actively manage them. This is conducted in accordance with our governance structure that is highlighted in our Environmental, social and governance strategy. Our Environmental Policy covers our activities and services worldwide that strive to reduce our impact on the environment.

At DXC, we are reducing the carbon footprint of our data centers, offices and other properties. In addition, we have set aggressive targets and launched interventions to reduce our energy consumption, use more renewable resources and lower our greenhouse gas emissions.

To shrink our carbon footprint, we are:

Consolidating data centers and offices worldwide. Currently, 85 percent of DXC’s carbon footprint is allocated to electricity consumption in these buildings.
Implementing new energy-efficiency measures
Reducing business travel by encouraging flexible working and increased use of technology
Contributing to global climate goals, such as those defined by the U.N.’s Paris Agreement
Ensuring that our data centers are certified under the ISO 50001 energy management system standard
Our annual emissions reporting is aligned with the requirements of the international reporting standard; the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Our approach for collecting and reporting data on greenhouse gas emissions is externally assured in accordance with ISO 14064-3:2006.

To reduce our energy consumption, we are:
--Encouraging DXC employees to reduce their consumption through both environmental education programs and hub-facility competitions
--Monitoring our power-use effectiveness across our data centers worldwide
--Adjusting the lighting and cooling of our buildings based on their current occupancy levels
--Managing our IT spaces and server rooms in accordance with the ASHRAE TC 9.9 Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments
--Conducting regular management reviews to ensure that our data centers and other facilities implement industry best practices for managing energy use and airflow

Along with reducing its actual energy consumption, DXC Technology also hit its target to procure 30 percent of total energy from green sources that are backed by Guarantees of Origins (GO), Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) or other reliable national tracking instruments.

At DXC Technology, we are further investing in our Renewable Energy Program to respond to the demand for affordable clean energy. DXC has purchased renewable energy from suppliers, amounting to 453,702 megawatt hours of energy in FY21. DXC’s renewable supply comes mostly from its majority-owned wind farm in Texas and from renewable energy supplied through a green tariff to sites in the United Kingdom. In addition, renewable energy is purchased in Spain and Scandinavia, and small amounts of onsite renewables are used to generate electricity in Germany, India and the United States.

At DXC, we are working to improve the lives of our employees, and the communities in which we live and work.

Here are just a few of our leading projects and efforts.
The DXC Foundation
The DXC Foundation is a registered U.S. charity that invests in community groups as a way to engage our employees and develop our relationships with clients, partners and communities. Its programs also strengthen our business performance and enhance our global brand.

Using targeted grants and programs, the DXC Foundation partners with our employees around the world, making it easy for them to make a difference both locally and globally.

The DXC Foundation also oversees the DXC Gives program, which helps the communities in which we live and do business. It also celebrates the volunteerism and dedication of our people.

In addition, the DXC Foundation sponsors a quarterly Charity Challenge. All DXC employees can enter, and the winners are given the opportunity to guide donations to the charities of their choice. DXC employees participate in the Challenge by submitting brief essays that describe acts of community service by DXC employees. The winners typically demonstrate excellence in collaboration, problem-solving, energy and community impact.

One program recently helped by the DXC Charity Challenge is Alzheimer Scotland. This group provides support and advice for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and those who have family members suffering from this disease. DXC volunteers have helped the program by sponsoring fundraising events, including a Christmas Hackathon for girls under the age of 17.

DXC India Foundation
The DXC India Foundation aims to improve the social mobility of underrepresented/underprivileged groups by collaborating with nonprofit partners on fostering digital literacy and the learning of new skills, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Our balanced, integrated approach enables the greatest impact in areas of major importance to DXC, including:
--Education: Fostering global literacy, with a focus on STEM learning for children from kindergarten to college age
--Health and wellness: Enhancing people’s health and wellness at a local and global level, with a focus on veterans, people with disabilities, and challenges related to child hunger and poverty
--Disaster relief: Supporting emergency assistance to those in need, after a disaster or period of crisis or trauma

DXC Dandelion
At DXC, we’re reimagining neurodiversity. The DXC Dandelion Program helps individuals on the autism spectrum build valuable IT skills and careers. The program combines robotics with commercial IT industry teaching and methodologies to help participants develop technical, life and executive functioning skills. To date, we have established 10 DXC Dandelion teams across Australia, working within DXC’s public and private sector clients, to employ more than 120 people on the autism spectrum. The program expanded into the United Kingdom in June 2021, with future expansion plans for Asia, United States and Europe.

DXC and The Scott-Morgan Foundation
DXC is a proud partner of The Scott-Morgan Foundation, which is on a mission to apply advanced technologies to empower people with extreme disabilities, illnesses, and other challenging conditions to continue to lead full and socially rich lives. The Foundation was established by Dr Peter Scott-Morgan, a visionary British roboticist, author, and speaker who, in 2017, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). DXC is leading technology roadmap and integration for The Foundation, bringing all the unique pieces of hardware, software, and AI into an integrated working solution designed to aid communication and mobility. The vision is to not only to collaborate with Peter, but to create an open and scalable set of technologies that could one day help others around the world to overcome life-challenging conditions.

Employee Development at DXC
At DXC, we invest in the progress of our employees. These investments include:
--DXC University, our online learning platform, served some 1.8 million learning hours in 2020 to more than 100,000 of our employees.
