REI Outlook Employee Reviews

What makes you most happy at work?

Helping customers who are appreciative of my expertise.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Interacting with people. Being creative. Working with like-minded people.

Being treated fairly, good communication, co-worker interaction. The discounts are great, too. Overall, our customers are fantastic.

Compensation is fair and my team is great to work with

Helping my coworkers and customers.

the people i work with are like minded

Review from Customer Support Dept

It's a gig. Thank you.

Getting a project done, making a floor set look better, helping a team member develop, or helping a customer find the right product.

Review from Sales Dept

Fitting people for their first pair of hiking boots and seeing their eyes light up with excitement

Leaving. Going home. Having the next day off

When I can help a customer get everything they need and teach them something new.

When I'm able to use my experience, acumen, to help a customer and they walk away very satisfied. Or I'm able to share experience, or direct training, with a co-worker they can benefit from.

Nature and Action Sports Experience . Also learning

Review from Sales Dept

I love the feeling that comes with helping a customer who for the first time is buying equipment to use outdoors. It is genuinely why I work part-time at REI.

Being busy with customers, the store being full and not even being able to hear the music because there's so many people in the store that are having conversations

Being around other like-minded people who enjoy the outdoors.

customer interaction... getting them what they need and properly informing them

Being with my coworkers because they are the reason i show up

Staying busy, open conversation with guests and employees, outdoor ethics.

Interacting with co workers snd fun customers

Review from Sales Dept

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

We are investing in people. We are investing in making the customer experience easier.

Review from Sales Dept

As a former employee of REI, I go out of my way to shop local outfitters.

Gone down the path of wokeness and race baiting

REI can voluntarily recognize unions and stop their illegal union busting. Stop opening more stores and start paying your employees livable wages.

Everything y'all have a lot of work to do if you want happy workers. Employees at my store said they were unhappy with how things were being run and the store manager told them they were wrong for feeling that way. Work on listening skills

Review from Sales Dept

Stop shoving memberships down people's throats. It loses customers. Stop giving employees weekly membership goals.

Equal pay and promotions for women

Department workload and expectations unrealistic, staff better and farm out some of our responsibilities to other departments, it’s unfair

Review from Sales Dept

Trust those you hire, by micromanaging you empower the unengaged and entrench the uninspired clock-watchers. Actually invest in people and you'll see dramatic improvment

Being paid a wage that is in line with the industry .

Review from Operations Dept

Beat down by bad leadership. No longer care

Stop focusing on change and try and make systems better. We need computers that work each time not once in a while. We offer something different from other stores so let's play that up.

Review from Customer Support Dept

Remove managers ans hire new managers that are apropriate and do not punish employees bu taking away work hkurs because they arent meeting conversion rates

Except for our store operations, everything is run from the top-down, from corporate to the store. There's also a ton of inefficiency and since we're a co-op, they can get away with it.

What do you like best about your company?

It's Values, Culture and vision!

Review from Sales Dept

What would you most like to see improved at your company?

Some in the company are stuck in 'old management' styles and need to adjust or move out of the way. They are hurting growth and development for many in the company and do not align with the way REI is doing things now.
